For sometime now I have been meaning to do a post on the most important piece of equipment for the Olympic weightlifter - the bar. Regardless of what type of ba...r you are using - please try to respect and treat it properly because you will want to be able to use that bar for as many years as possible. Unload it with care - don't just rip the weights off of one side and let the end of the bar drop. Where are the pieces in the bar that are most important for that bar to spin properly? You guessed it - right near the ends of the bars. If it is light weight on the bar you do not need to throw or drop the bar down - you can actually lower it in control. Remember - most weightlifters are strong and have good mobility!!! Yes the bar does take abuse from normal use but why add extra stress to the bar? I hate to see mistreatment of bars or improper use which could end up in the result of that bar breaking at some point due to added stress over time and this can be very dangerous. Yes - accidents can happen which can create damage to a bar - this does not make it a quality issue. I have a 20kg Eleiko bar from the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria that is my favourite bar. It still spins great and is as straight as when I received it 23 years ago. Why - because I respect the bars that I own!!! #olympiclifting #eleiko #kelowna #weightlifting #olylifting #olycoach #olympicweightlifting #respectthebar #vikingsweightliftingclub See more
