Price: $5 & $10 Zines Where to buy: Assiniyiskew Press (Etsy) (Clickable link via linktree in the bio) Link: www.etsy.com/ca/shop/AssiniyiskewPress Website: www.atrocitiesagainstindigenouscanadians.com Series Features: Atrocities Against Indigenous Canadians for Dummies... Topics: Residential Schools, MMIWG, 60s Scoop, Pow Wow Etiquette, Youth Intro to CRS, Things To Do While Travelling Author & Artist: Jenna Rose @assiniyiskew Description: As I mentioned above, there is a large Indigenous population near and within my hometown and despite this, there are an alarming number of folks who either know very little of Indigenous history and struggles or know nothing at all. I recently had to explain what a residential school was to a person in their fifties as they said THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THEM?!?!? They then Googled them, you know, to make sure I wasn't off my rocker. This blew my mind as while I'm used to people knowing so little I'm not used to meeting people who have lived their entire lives in a city of nearly 400,000, with three Indigenous communities so close, who have NEVER HEARD OF RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS?! LET ALONE THOUSANDS OF WOMEN AND GIRLS MISSING OR THE SIXTIES SCOOP OR ANY OF THE MILLION OTHER ISSUES! This is completely unacceptable. There's a lot in the history of Indigenous Canadians that is unacceptable and there are many atrocities still occurring across Canada as I write this which is heartbreaking. Out of this heartbreak I have been feeling a seething rage which then turned into a whole lot of annoyance with explaining everything related to Indigenous issues. So here I am, spending many nights making ragey and hopefully visually interesting zines to educate folks. via @assiniyiskew ‘s website * * * #AtrocitiesAgainstIndigenousCanadiansforDummies #JennaRose #assiniyiskew #ResidentialSchools #ResidentialSchoolsCanada #MMIWG #60sScoop #PowWowEtiquette #YouthIntrotoCRS #ThingsToDoWhileTravelling #FirstNations #IndigenousSovereignty #IndigenousHistoryCanada #IndigenousActivism #IndigenousResistance #LearnCanadaHistory #LearnUSHistory #MutetheWhiteNoise #ChallengeColonialism #IndigenousSolidarity #IndigenousWriters #IndigenousArtists #IndigenousZi See more

Price: $24.95 Where to buy: University of Minnesota Press (Clickable link via linktree in the bio) Link: www.upress.umn.edu/book-division/books/black-on-both-sides Title: Black on Both Sides: A Racial History of Trans Identity Author: C. Riley Snorton... Year: 2017 Description: In Black on Both Sides, C. Riley Snorton identifies multiple intersections between blackness and transness from the mid-nineteenth century to present-day anti-black and anti-trans legislation and violence. Drawing on a deep and varied archive of materialsearly sexological texts, fugitive slave narratives, Afro-modernist literature, sensationalist journalism, Hollywood filmsSnorton attends to how slavery and the production of racialized gender provided the foundations for an understanding of gender as mutable. In tracing the twinned genealogies of blackness and transness, Snorton follows multiple trajectories, from the medical experiments conducted on enslaved black women by J. Marion Sims, the father of American gynecology, to the negation of blackness that makes transnormativity possible. via @uminnpress * * * #BlackonBothSides #ARacialHistoryofTransIdentity #CRileySnorton #BlackTransLivesMatter #nomoretransdeaths #SupportTransArtists #SupportBlackTransArtists #BlackTrans #BlackTransActivists #BlackTransActivism #BlackTransWriters #BlackActivists #BIPOCwriters #2SLGBTQQIA #lgbtq #trans #queer #Stonewall #StonewallWasARiot #EndPoliceBrutality #DefundthePolice #prisonindustrialcomplex #onlineresources #MutetheWhiteNoise #NoMoreBlackDeaths #UMinnPress See more
