Does being seen make you uncomfortable? When I say seen, I’m talking about that vulnerable, deep sight that happens when we reveal ourselves to a trusted audience. I bet you know what I’m talking about. I feel that way in hard conversations with my partner, or when I share my art with clients and when I write gushy words here.... However, experience has shown me that being seen is so often rewarded. In the form of deeper trust between my love and I. By the tearful eyes of a mom looking through the art we’ve made together. Or the warm comments you leave for me here. These last few weeks the still, small voice inside me has asked me to do a project that cuts a little too close to that vulnerable seen place. It would be really easy to shove it aside, but I’ve learned that it serves no one for me to ignore that little internal voice. The project is around creating images of moms and their little ones. COVID has me rethinking how I make art, which is opening me up to new opportunities. Including outdoor newborn sessions. I had never done one until last month and it was so freeing. It feels so fitting and natural to be outdoors with a fresh human.
