October is Women’s History Month in Canada, and each week we’re marking this important occasion by honouring outstanding Canadian women who embody the values that inspire us. Women like Jean B. Lumb (1919-2002), a dedicated community leader and social activist who demonstrated an incredible collaborative spirit throughout her life. In addition to working with her local community to preserve Toronto’s Chinatown district and promote Chinese culture across Canada, Lumb also joined a national delegation in 1957 to address discrimination in Canada’s immigration laws. In 1976, Lumb was awarded the Order of Canada, becoming the first Chinese Canadian woman to receive this honour. We’re excited to announce that we’re partnering with Diabetes Canada Manitoba for a third consecutive year on our #Dynacare4Diabetes wellness initiative in Manitoba. This year’s campaign runs from October 21 to November 30, 2020. Diabetes affects approximately 28 per cent of Manitobans, with numbers expected to rise significantly in the next 10 years. COVID-19 can also cause more severe symptoms and complications in some people living with diabetes, making it important now more than ever for Manitobans to understand their risk for this all-too-common disease.
