Importance of Muscles The muscular system of the human body contains more than 600 muscles that work in harmony to help enable full functioning of the body. These muscles are attached to bones and when contracting the muscles causes movement of the bones. ... Smooth Muscle are muscles that line the inside of blood vessels and organs such as the stomach. These muscles are the weakest type but have an essential role in moving nutrients and food along the digestive tract and help maintain blood circulation. These muscles are involuntary and cant be consciously controlled. Cardiac muscles are located only in the heart and pumps the blood around the body. Cardiac muscle stimulate its own contractions that form a heartbeat. The cardiac muscle is also strong and is involuntarily controlled. Importance of Bones Bones in the body provide structure and in an adult human the skeleton is made up of 206 bones. Bones are made up of connective tissues which are reinforced with calcium and bone cells. Most bones in the human body also contain bone marrow which is where blood cells are made. Bones work together with muscles and joints to hold our body together and help provide freedom of movement. The skeleton supports and shapes the body to help protect delicate... internal organs such as the brain, heart and lungs as well as other internal organs.
