This week marks the anniversary of the International Day for Racial Discrimination. Currently, there is a glaring absence of data on sport participation rates of girls, women and non-binary people who identify as racialized or Indigenous. E-Alliance is committed to remedying these omissions through in-depth research and critical examination of the systems and structures of sport in Canada, and posing recommendations for more inclusive sport. Read the expertise of our researchers here: https://ealliance.ca/c/race-racialized-identities-and-sport

The NCAA was in the spotlight over the weekend for obvious disparities between resources provided for men’s teams compared to women’s teams during #MarchMadness. Sadly, this is not a rare experience. Women and girls of all ages, and across all levels of #sport recreational, competitive, and elite confront this type of discrimination in sport. E-Alliance research has found that neglect is a main form of discrimination experienced by women and girls in sport (including omis...sion of care, lack of adequate equipment, and failure to provide a safe training environment) (Stirling, 2019). This leads many girls to quit sports at an early age, and for sport to become a negative experience. In fact, 2/5 teenage girls in Canada say that the quality of sports offered was their main reason for not participating (Glennie et al, 2012). More information is still needed to understand the impacts of neglect for non-binary athletes, as well. E-Alliance recently launched a series of infographics exploring these topics on our website: https://ealliance.ca Follow us to stay up-to-date on our ongoing work to eradicate gender inequity in sport. #womenplaytoo #NCAA #sportforall
