It's everyone's favourite day... TAKE A KIT TUESDAY! Today's kit is full of everything you'll need to make your very own book. When you're done, send Holly a video of you reading your book :) How Does Learning Happen? Encouraging children to make their own books has a positive effect on their sense of well-being, helps to build resilience as they are encouraged to express their thoughts and concerns, improves their attention span as they become engaged in the activity as well as helping to foster the development of writing and reading skills.

Today we're exploring the density of water. The more dense we make the water, the heavier it feels. We add kitchen ingredients to 3 different cups of water and then experiment with dropping plastic jewels into each cup. Try this at home -you can drop LEGO or SHOPKINS (or other little toys you have) into YOUR cups of water too! How Does Learning Happen? Providing opportunities for children to try simple science experiments helps develop their resourcefulness, particularly their skills at goal-setting, planning and problem-solving. It also nurtures intellectual curiosity, helps them acquire new ways of asking questions and understanding the world.

Today is Orange Shirt Day when we honour Indigenous people and the impact that the residential school experience has had on their lives. Listen to Holly read a story called When We Were Alone by David A. Robertson and Julie Flett.; "a story about a difficult time in history and, ultimately, a story of empowerment and strength." #everychildmatters How Does Learning Happen? By learning about the residential school experience, by witnessing and honouring the healing journey of ...the survivors and their families, and by committing to the ongoing process of reconciliation, we are reaffirming that every child matters, even if they are now adults. In order to foster a sense of belonging and well-being, and to help children become more empathetic, we all have a responsibility to acknowledge the truth and fight untruths regarding residential schools. In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Terry's Marathon of Hope, we are participating in the The Terry Fox Foundation's Terry Fox School Run. The Cochrane Child Care Centre Garde D'Enfants De Cochrane has an online fundraising page and you can find the link here: https://secure.terryfox.ca/regist/TeamFundraisingPage.aspx To help celebrate Terry's legacy safely, we are asking families to participate in FUN "What's Your 40?" activities. Holly did 40 laps aroung the parking... loop at the EarlyON Child and Family Centre; what will YOU do? Please share your pictures and use #whatsyour40 #tryliketerry #terryfoxschoolrun How Does Learning Happen? Participating in community events helps to foster a sense of belonging for children and families. Learning about a Canadian hero like Terry Fox helps to foster a sense of pride in our country. Helping to fundraise for charity helps to foster a sense of empathy and generosity towards others.

Have you ever wondered how strong is spaghetti? Holly is tinkering with spaghetti today to see how much weight it can support. (We don't want to give away the ending but...she could use a little help from her friends!) How Does Learning Happen? Capitalizing on children's curiosity as a learning motivator isn't complicated. Their brains are designed to learn. By providing children with enriching experiences, we give potential a helping hand. Our support promotes their cognitive development so learning pathways become refined and strengthened. An involved adult close by, who enthusiastically shares and responds to children's delight in discovery is very important.

Today's Active Adventure is a trip to the farm! We go for a bus ride and we harvest some vegetables. Won't you join us? How Does Learning Happen? Pretend play helps children understand the power of language, and fosters their imaginations and problem-solving skills. Active play strengthens bones, muscles and the brain and establishes connections between all three.
