Without continued research decision-makers will be unable to make informed decisions about any aspect of climate policy. Since last year and the cancellatio...n of the Climate Change and Atmospheric research program there has been no dedicated funding stream for climate science in Canada. Canada also has only one dedicated science satellite (critically important for measuring atmospheric gases and ozone) and it is 14 years past its planned lifetime. If the satellite stops we’re going to have all these experts in remote sensing and they’re going to go off and work for the Europeans or the Americans or somebody else and it will be very hard for us to decide to get back in the game. #earthstrike Please talk to your coworkers about going on strike for our futures; without a pushback our government will not take the dire situation of the climate emergency we are in seriously.

Two days before the official start of summer, snow has been falling on an Okanagan highway while wildfires were being fought nearby. According to Environment Ca...nada, snow blanketed the Okanagan Connector on Wednesday morning, with flakes continuing to fall between Aspen Grove and Brenda Mines. The low freezing levels combined with an unstable air mass pave the way for thundersnow on Highway 97C, said the weather agency. Heads up! It's SNOWING on the Okanagan Connector between Aspen Grove and Brenda Mines. Low freezing levels + unstable airmass = thundersnow! Threat continues through this morning. #BCHwy97C #DriveBC #BCstorm pic.twitter.com/x4186MEVAW ECCC Weather British Columbia (@ECCCWeatherBC) June 19, 2019 Meanwhile, six homes on the Penticton Indian Band were evacuated after an early Wednesday forest fire was spotted nearby. Crews have since knocked down the blaze and residents have been allowed to return home, according to a message posted to the band’s Facebook page at around 6 a.m. Those residents, however, remain on evacuation alert should the fire flare-up again. The band is located about an hour’s drive from where the Elkhart highway camera is located on Hwy. 97C. According to the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, the world has about 12 years left to try to avoid climate catastrophe due to rising greenhouse-gas emissions.
