I've started weaving a warp that I snow-dyed. It's 100% cotton, mainly 8/2 but some 16/2 and some slubby. The "plan" is to start with yellows for weft, move to greens and transition to blues at the far end. Of course, there's every chance that this warp will demand a completely different approach.
Take a prewound wool warp, add in some handspun weft, a design based on the T-shaped pullover from the Self-Innovation book, and what happens? A jacket! Now all that’s needed is weather that cooperates.
This is more impressive than my shot, but I’m further south.
A little yellow and yellow-like...since the studio has been downsized, I’ve been trying to use up the knitting stash. Yellow is now down to one bin and I have 7 metres of cloth to play with.
Anyone else getting dozens of messages from Etsy with a new code?
My granddaughter left all of her weaving with me when they went home on Monday. Tuesday I spent a few hours hemming, sewing, stabilizing and labeling everything(we had gone through and sticky-noted what each piece was), then popped it in the mail for her. I think she was pleased to get it!
When left to her own devices, my older granddaughter really lets her imagination run. She combined six different threads into one, and is weaving some amazing textures and colours. I think next year when she’s 9 she might be ready to start learning how to dress the loom.
Getting so close to workable organization! Just one corner of chaos left to deal with. Yay!
Earthshine Weaving is slowly starting to emerge. It’s now partially organized chaos, as opposed to the previous scary random piles of stuff. I found a bin of yard lights in amongst Saori cloth, but we’re still missing one tv remote control. Not really missing it at this point; we replaced it. Stay tuned. (Actually we stayed tuned to the Weather Network for a few weeks, because that was the last channel on the tube before we lost the remote. Old person problem.)
Earthshine Saori Weaving has doors! Not much else, but one imagines... We’re not yet able to offer in-person weaving sessions, but there is a bit of retail happening. If there’s a warp you can’t live without, or any of the Saori books for which you’ve a hankering, you can drop me an email at [email protected]. Please note that the website earthshineweaving.ca is not operational at present, so the email address on the site is also non-functional. ... What are you weaving these days?

How to entertain the troops, Saori style. Third photo shows a minion giving his evil overlord a piece of his mind.
Where there's a will there's a way. MK getting a quick refresher on what to do with her loom when she takes it home.

Finally got this cloth off the loom. I'm liking it much better now that it's done. @saorisaltspring The colours reminded me of you!
New warp going on the loom. Watery colours- a reminder for me that the snow will not last forever. Mercerized cotton for the sheen! What’s on your loom/wheel/needles/hook?
I get a newsletter from the Kimono Flea Market ICHIROYA in Osaka, and would like to share part of it with you this morning. "At this moment, shinpai(worries), kanashimi(sadness), and kyofu(fear) are the things we have in common but we believe, we have omoiyari (compassion) and kibou(hope)also in common." Stay safe, stay healthy, and we will emerge stronger when the new day dawns.... Peace and love, Judi
Finished up some cotolin placemats- not my favourite fibre to work with, but for some reason I've got lots in the stash. What fibre things are you doing to keep your hands, head and heart going during the pandemic?
It hasn’t been as nasty a winter as last year, but I’m at the point where green is starting creep into my weaving. You can learn to weave what’s in your subconscious. Earthshine Saori Weaving Studio has lots of openings for our 2-hour introductory Saori weaving class. No experience is necessary (saving you from me doing my very best Yoda imitation- first you must unlearn what you have learned) and the looms are all set up and ready to go. All you need to do is sit down and weave! Drop us a message or an email ([email protected]) to get started down your own path of creativity.
Well that was fun! Thank you for spending your afternoon in Earthshine Saori Weaving Studio! Family and friend groups (up to 4 people) are always welcome to check out what Saori weaving is all about. No experience is necessary; just come in and sit down and weave! Drop us and message and let's get together. Your inner artist deserves to be let out to play. Earthshine Saori Weaving will again be at the Biggar Fibre Festival on June 13th. There will be some introductory Saori weaving sessions, as well as some goodies available for purchase. We hope to see you there! #saoriweaving #saoriyxe #earthshinesaori #earthshineweavingsaskatoon #earthshineweavingyxe #biggarfibrefair #biggarfibrefestival
Mr. C is three, and is taking an interest in what goes on in the studio. I’m happy to help him start his Saori journey, even if it is only three minutes at a time.
It’s never too young to start someone weaving.
