For the past six months, I've been collaborating with peers who are responding to the food crisis that's integral to the pandemic. This is my writing, shining a light on their incredible work as a collective.

Imagine a children's storytime where all the kids and families on the sidelines are welcomed into the centre. My friends Aisha and nine-year-old Rakim of I Dream Library are making this happen! Representation matters for healthy social-emotional development and literacy at all ages. It still matters to me at this age as a queer femme! When diversity and allyship show up in children's stories, the world is so much better, and I can see it happening as I collaborate on this pr...oject. I'm glad to be working with the people of Vancouver Neighbourhood Food Networks and BC Food Security Gateway, who are collaborating to provide dignified, nourishing and culturally appropriate food access for our neighbours. There is so much to do around decolonization, anti-racism and poverty reduction in our food systems. I include my own learning and shift toward cultural humility as an ongoing part of my commitment to these shared practices. I look forward to seeing how people collectively bring the work of being human into public narratives in the weeks, months and years ahead.
