Earth Wine & Barrel

This wine barrel head/lid serving tray is made from the top of the wine barrel which usually has the cooper (the artisan who creates and puts together wine barrels) markings stamped on the lid. There is no glue or fasteners used when putting a barrel together so when I take one apart and use it for trays, candle holders and a myriad of other items I have to reassemble it and glue it together. I took the full lid but removed the end pieces making up the full circle to make thi...s rounded rectangle shape and added wine barrel stave feet to the underside to elevate it off your table. Finished with our ‘It IS your beeswax!’ food safe finish which combines organic beeswax and hemp oil you can serve your cheese and charcuterie right on the board and wipe off with a damp cloth when the party is over and the cheese is gone! A few year’s ago a tree fell on our property after a storm (the question on your minds is did anyone hear? Our senior chihuahua mix slept through it but we heard it!) and after it laying in our yard for a couple of months I paid a local gentleman with a mobile mill to mill all the wood for me and the end result is a beautiful selection of maple. I saw these two pieces and they reminded me of those Japanese watercolour paintings of mountains you see and thought they should go ...together. After lots of sanding to a smooth and buttery finish I applied my homemade It is Your Beeswax food safe finish and they are ready to be used for your appetizers, cheese and charcuterie displays. Made this shorter 5 tea light wine barrel stave for a customer custom order and it got me thinking...maybe not everyone wants or can fit a 35-36 inch long candle holder somewhere but they still may want something with 5 tea lights?! I tried a video to illustrate how good my reformulated it IS your beeswax! Finishing and protectant wax is! Etsy will only allow a 15 sec video as well as it has to be high quality so after a couple of trials I have a crappy one in my Etsy store and a longer one I’m posting here. Put a load in the kiln this evening, this is one layer! I have a very Halloween themed wine bottle in there from last year I hope it slumps well! Time to start looking at the #LCBO for more Halloween bottles like this #hobnobwine one, buy them, drink them and clean and slump the bottles! It’s a hard job but I’m up for the challenge! I’m Canadian , I love wine and the moose is my spirit animal! So when my @canadiantire wicker moose had seen better days (he’s probably close to 10 years old and outside year round) and had no wicker and the lights stopped working I started pulling wild grape vine from around my property (it even still has little grapes on it!) and wrapping it around him.
