April is Stress Awareness Month & National Counseling Awareness Month! Stress is unfortunately very prevalent during these uncertain times. Ensure that you are able to manage stress in a healthy way - such as exercise, a creative hobby, talking with family/friends, watching a favourite TV show, etc. Another great way to manage stress is through counseling! Because it's also National Counseling Awareness Month, EaseCare is the perfect resource to access mental health counseling services. We provide free physician and psychiatry consults for those with a valid Alberta Health Care Card. Counseling is an excellent outlet for expressing your feelings and working through stress. www.easecare.ca.

With Covid-19 still ongoing, it can seem hard to escape hearing about it or thinking about it, which can negatively affect your overall mental health (even though we all want to stay safe and healthy). Here are three tips for stepping away from pandemic-related information when you feel overwhelmed: 1) Turn off the TV/radio news for a few hours each day, or even for a full day. This can help you focus on things that aren't covid-related. If you still want to watch TV or liste...n to the radio, watch a fun show or turn on a station that only plays music you enjoy. 2) Get outside for some fresh air when the weather permits (wear a mask if necessary when in close contact to others outside of your household). 3) Engage in a stress-free hobby such as cooking or painting.

"I see a psychiatrist and a psychologist regularly and now just take anti-anxiety medication. I'm tackling the myth that African-American women have to be pillars of strength. We have the right to fall. We have the right not to always have our s--- together." - Lisa Nicole Carson
