High quality custom handles. Great customer service. Got back to me quickly with questions I had and fast shipping. Highly recommend!
From a customer.......great idea to lengthen a handle!
These handles are special order and headed to Great Britain! The first 4 from the left are the "Basque" style handles - used in racing axes in Spain. The next is a special order curvy girl handle (started by Vintage Axe Revival's Brad Crosby), then Tuatahi, Aussie and Hetherington handle patterns. All are hickory except for the farthest right (Canadian ash). Fun order.
I like finding good instructional videos. If you want to know how to properly SHAPE a handle from the eye to the handle.....and what is BEST for STRENGTH.......this lad does a very good job. I agree. Remember...."thin to win"...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrghRcqbVis
Limited time offer - curly hickory. Found half dozen bolts in the pile from this tree. Tough to work, but when its treated/oiled the pattern is gorgeous. $80 per handle while supply last - limit one per order.
Limited offer - birds eye spatulas. Only available until my wood pile runs out. $30 each. Limit 2 per customer.
I have some GREAT news, and some not-so-great news. I believe I have found a source for hickory! Its within Canada, but 7 hours from home. The not-so-great news is price - 4 times what I normally pay for hickory. This will immediately translate into an increase in the price of my hickory handles - $40. I have also changed my auto reply to messages. shipping through Canada Post has also been gradually creeping up. a shipment of 4-6 handles now runs $40 to most US lo...cations. Not a big jump - but an increase nonetheless. I know hickory handles made by competitors in the USA run $40-45 USD and the same handle in Australia and NZ are $70 NZD. My handles are still the cheapest there is for racing axe handles. People keep telling me they should be $45-50 given the quality. Time will tell. I also like to not only have the best quality....but also the best price. Therefore, $40 USD until I see how we make out getting some hickory. At the current pace I will be out of hickory by May....and the new stuff I usually have drying for a year.
Just a heads up - Rod is back working full time once again, which may be good for him.....but not so good for turn-around time in the handle shop. With just evenings and Saturdays, things will be a wee bit slower getting out of the shop. We appreciate your patience in realizing quality takes a little time. Order turn-around times are right around 4-5 weeks at present. Thanks for your understanding.
Not just a happy customer, but quite a craftsman in his own right - Brad Crosby at Vintage Axe Revival doing what he does best. Check this out.....
While East Coast Lumberjack makes all orders "Special"......this one is especially so. These beauties (34" American hickory Tuatahi pattern) are headed to Prince George BC to a life-long friend of mine - Leigh Black. We chopped a lot of wood back in the 1990's and he followed his heart and dreams to the west coast and has been very successful in both our lumberjack sport as well as in the cruising and mapping industry. Great handles for a great friend!
Well.....THANKS COVID!! I was inspecting our handle bolt stock this weekend and doing an inventory for the tax man. NOT looking very good at the present. I'm down to about 200 hickory bolts remaining......and none split and drying because our borders have been closed. I am working on sourcing other hickory in Canada, but its a ways off securing it. Add to this it takes about a year for hickory to dry to around 16 percent moisture content, and looks like we may be only able to offer ash handles for a spell until we replenish the hickory. Ahhh......the joys of being a small business during the plandemic!
Love these guys! My friends Koen Martin, Martin Komarek, Christophe Geissler, Elgan Pugh, Mike Dubicki, and Ferry Svan among the best in the EU to lock horns right after Christmas! Great entertainment!
Room for 2 more participants on this weekends Chainsaw safety course in Keswick, NB. PM me soon!
Got this message from a customer in Toronto last week after I sent these 4 handles: "Received my handles today. Had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Incredible, thank you so much. I will be following up with another order soon."
A little example of what we can do here at East Coast Lumberjack. Check out the grain on this special order handle!
