Today we're proud to announce the start of our annual partnership with Atira Women's Resource Society to raise money for food hampers! All food hampers go to Vancouver area women in need this holiday season. Through December 19th, please consider donating $5 to purchase an EEFC food hamper of hotplate cookable items including soup, baked beans, mac and cheese, tuna, and more. Last year we were able to supply Atira with 187 hampers. Help us reach our goal of 200 this year! Ask... a staffmember to add a donation to your bill at checkout. "Atira Women's Resource Society is dedicated to supporting women and children affected by violence by offering safe and supportive housing and by delivering education and advocacy aimed at ending all forms of gendered violence. Atira provides a range of services not only in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside (DTES), but also in Burnaby, Surrey, and White Rock. From housing to outreach, daycare to education, Atira works to empower and support women affected by violence." Good news! Folks have been asking for a weekday MAD, so we decided to bring it back next week! Every 4th wednesday of the month will be our second member appreciation day for those who can't make it on the weekend. (Unfortunately, we will not be able to do one next month, as it is too close to Christmas. Going forward in January, though, there will be two MADs a month!)

As cases in BC sharply rise again, the Coop is still committed to keeping both our staff and shoppers as safe as possible. If you are immunocompromised or otherwise at a higher risk of infection, please do shop with us on weekday mornings when we're at our slowest and cleanest! Since March we have been sanitizing all surfaces, handles, and baskets in the store first thing, every day! We recommend this time if social distancing is important to you.

We have a lot of things going on during this busy fall month. Lots of local organic produce is in, from apples to winter squash. Now's the time to pick up tomatoes for canning, cabbage for 'krauting, and pears for baking with a little sprinkle of cinnamon. (Yum.) First up is our online turkey draw contest! Like and share our giveaway posts here on Facebook and over on Instagram before Oct. 9th to be entered to win a fresh, local, antibiotic-free turkey from JD Farms. We will not be taking in-person submissions this year, but please do post finished art to social media and tag us! ALL art will be shared on our pages. Winners will be drawn by the end of the month, prizes TBA. Below are our weekly specials, as well as a COVID mandatory mask notice. We will begin requiring masks from all shoppers starting on Oct. 17th, with a two-week adjustment period starting on the 4th. We will be providing disposable masks on an as-needed basis to customers during that time. Check out the graphic for more information.
