As we move into this third wave, here’s your reminder that mental health is health, and that prioritizing yours is important. This week, Social Worker Lisa Derencinovic has offered up some third wave support! Here are her tips for prioritizing your mental health right now. Stop trying to mop the ocean - We’ve all been trying to control the uncontrollable. It’s natural to try and do this, but it can create feelings of anxiousness and worry. ... When you’re doing this, imagine you’re mopping the ocean. It’s an impossible task, so put down the mop. Take comfort in the familiar - Turn to what works. Read that favourite book again. Rewatch that binge-worthy series. Revive that old hobby that used to bring you joy. Give your mind a break. Be creative with your movement - There are strong connections between mental health and physical activity. Move your body in the way that feels right to you. Maybe it’s a good stretch. Maybe it’s going to the end of your block. Whatever works! Ask for help - It’s totally okay to reach out for help. That could mean calling a friend or family member, or finding a therapist. Sometimes taking the first step is the hardest. #mentalhealthishealth #mentalhealth #covid_19 #wellness #therapy

On #internationalwomensday, we acknowledge and celebrate the work of Black, Indigenous, and women of colour in the movement, and their efforts to liberate us all. We recognize the intersectionality of feminism, and turn to the work still to come. We acknowledge the potential of this day for change and growth, while noting the capitalist lean it has taken. It is not our differences that divide us; it is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences. - ...Audre Lorde. I am not free when any women is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own. - Audre Lorde Without community, there is no liberation. - Audre Lorde

How are you? Seems like a simple question, right? Do you use it to check in with yourself? It’s unmistakably a hard moment for many. Giving ourselves space to feel, and process, and even mourn right now can be challenging between all the other conflicting priorities. For many, it’s hard to find a quiet moment in an uncertain time to do much of anything right now. We hope you find and claim those moments when you can. ... Asking how the people around you are coping can also be a form of community care. Checking and creating space for this question helps us all feel connected when we can’t be there in person, while we’re working to flatten the curve. If you feel like you, or someone you care about may benefit from speaking with a therapist right now, we’re happy to help you find the right person to support your mental health through this hard moment. You can email us at [email protected] or connect directly with a collective member via our website (link in profile). We have a number of practitioners with quick availability and are happy to connect you. So, how are you? #mentalhealthishealth #wellness #mentalhealth #psychotherapy #therapy

Meet Jay Jonah! Jay is a Social Worker/Psychotherapist. Jay has added some availability to his practice and is accepting new clients. Along with his practice, Jay is an incredible advocate and manages a binder recycling/distribution program called @bindersout_. On his practice, Jay says, I specialize in working with folxs who identifies as being part of the 2SILGBTQ community, as well as parents or partners of 2SILGBTQ individuals. Trying to understand ourselves and cope wi...th conflicting feelings can be challenging, especially when we also have to battle the world around us just to be respected. As a gray-ace, demisexual, trans identified person I know what it’s like to struggle with dating, family, to feel alone, to question my identity, and to feel lost in a community that is supposed to support us. I can support you through: coming out, transitioning, body image, family, work/school, dating, questioning your identity, gender identity, gender expression, sexual identity, and just life challenges in general. We are more than just our queer and/or trans identity, and not everything is because we are queer and/or trans. . To book a complimentary consult with Jay, you can email us at [email protected] or contact him directly through his profile on our website (link in bio). . . #therapy #psychotherapy #mentalhealth #wellness #mentalhealthishealth See more

Shouting ‘self-care’ at people who actually need ‘community care’ is how we fail people. - Nakita Valerio Resolutions and words of the year aren’t something we do, but as we look into 2021, the first few months of which are going to be hard, we, as a collective will continue to play a part in community care as a space where we can contribute by supporting others in their self-care. Community Care as a concept and act was intended to be the follow up to self-care, by the B...lack and Women of Colour who first conceptualized self-care as a way to protect and recharge to make community care and activism possible. It’s much more that what the wellness industry sells in the form of bubble baths and candles. To get through to the other side of this, we need each other, and community care can take many forms. It can be as small as checking in on your neighbours in isolation with a text or note, or shopping local to keep our small businesses around in hard times. It’s wearing a mask, and keeping your distance. It’s asking the simple question, how can I help?, or for people who have a hard time accepting help, it’s anticipating a need and meeting it. We’re here for the self-care, so we can all get through this together. Here’s to 2021, and our communities. . . #wellness #mentalhealth #psychotherapy

We’re pleased to share an online perinatal mental health group from @caitlinbeukematherapy and @catalyst_therapy_ today! There are a few spots left, but if there’s interest, they’ll plan another session. . . From Caitlin and Lisa: ... Hey Mama. Yup you, the one doing all the things, juggling all the balls and figuring out this new life with baby. We know it can be a lonely experience, made even lonelier by the restrictions of a global pandemic. That’s why we’ve created this group. While we hope to hold it in person one day-we wanted a space for new parents to come together and feel a little less alone. This isn’t just any moms meet-up, though. Led by therapists who are also parents, our aim is to support YOU through this transition. With so much emphasis on the babe, this is a space for you to focus on yourself- to take as good care of yourself as you do your little one! We will touch on themes such as processing your story, identity, relationships and family dynamics, postpartum depression and anxiety, parenting strategies and much more! This group will be a safe space just for you to navigate this new season of your life- whether you’ve got one, two, or more tiny humans at home. Equal parts supportive and empowering, cathartic and connective, we hope to offer you a space (from the comfort of your home) to talk about all the ups and downs of parenthood. Join us starting January 14th, for eight weeks; from 12:30-1:30pm. Link to register is in bio. Feel free to reach out with any questions. We look forward to meeting you. Lisa + Caitlin . .
