Eastern Ontario Tackle Football Officials Association 06.05.2021

Have you ever considered becoming an on-field tackle football official? Well EOTFOA is looking for a few good men ... and women. We're hosting a virtual EOTFOA Recruiting Night Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. to explain a bit about officiating, what it takes to be a good official, and why those of us who don the stripes have such a passion for being out there on the field. The interactive 30- to 35-minute program will be followed by an open Q and A with some of our most experienced and ...accomplished members (of ALL ages). There's NO obligation. But if you're at all curious about what it takes to wear the stripes, we invite you to attend. There are lots more details on the EOTFOA's event website .... https://www.eotfoa.ca/events, hope to see you there!

Sad news from the EOTFOA executive: Terrible timing to have to send a note like this, but it is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of long-time EOTFOA official John Lamont. As most of you know, John had been battling illness for quite some time, but had remained an active member of the association through his involvement as a mentor, evaluator, timer and in many other behind-the-scenes capacities. We send our sincere condolences to his son Kevin (also a lon...gtime EOTFOA member), all of John's family and friends, and officiating colleagues. All of us who knew John well benefited from his friendship, his exceptional skills on the football field, and as a truly wonderful person. Obviously because of the current restrictions, any service would be held privately. The association is considering a way to recognize his contributions for so many years; we'll update you when we can. Take care. John officiated at every level, including OUA, and had a positive influence on a great number of officials, athletes, and coaching staff. https://ottawacitizen.remembering.ca//john-lamont-1081376/

CFOA 2020 Exam A reminder that we must complete the exam prior to midnight on July 31, at which time the ClassMarker link expires. Once we have completed the exam, we get an email with our score. The association will also receive our score for its records. We still have no idea what the rest of 2020 might hold for us in terms of actual football games, but the exam is a great way to keep up to date on rules and to help stay sharp in the event we do get onto the field at some point.

A statement from the Football Canada family.

Key messages from Don on behalf of the executive: First, we hope everyone and their loved ones are all doing well these days. Re. the virus: Obviously this is not going to be a "quick fix" as we had all hoped. The city has now closed all sports and recreation facilities through at least June 30. Once things settle down, we'll let you know what the prospects are for a football season during 2020. Things are going to be very much up in the air for at least another month or two,... maybe longer. Meanwhile, Football Canada did approve the new rules for 2020. When we have more information about a possible season, then we'll do a proper training session for everyone and go over all of the nuances. In the meantime, we wish you and your families all the best. Hang in there...

Extract from our VP’s email today, thanks Justin! As spring football is likely to be impacted, I wanted to pass around a few things that will help prepare you for the return of football, as well as to help escape the new life we find ourselves in for now. If you have any ideas you think may be of interest or help, please let me know. Inserting moments of escape, into something fun or comfortable, has really helped me. We have created a new goals form. It is a revamped version... of the Word document that was used in the past. If you are looking to progress within the Association, this will be the new way to let the Association know your goals and plan. In order for it to be an effective tool, be honest! Brief background of yourself; Goals: What would you like to accomplish in the: 1) upcoming; and 2) next 2-5 seasons; and How you see yourself getting there? There is also a section where you can tell us how you see the Association helping you to get there. Once submitted it will be reviewed and we will be in touch with you to discuss. I'd suggest a couple of additional items to work into our new temporary routines: Physical fitness is very important, even if it's just a short workout to maintain your fitness level. It will provide a boost to serotonin levels; If you don't have a fitness routine Google is a great friend for free resources/videos/apps. There are also a number of workouts and apps that don't require a home gym (or any equipment) as well. One 9-minute lower body workout, as an example, can be found on YouTube. Lastly, get into the rule book. This is a great way to refresh yourself, prepare for the upcoming exam, and brush the off-season cobwebs away.
