We've been spending allot of time posting about our Wing Chun club and classes as they've been hard at work securing space & sponsorships downtown in order to see the E//A dream realized; and with that, we thought we might take a moment to celebrate the fact that Eastern::Active's cultural efforts expand across a variety of creative platforms and so we bring you some news from the more so static of our creative inclinations from the gallery: In 2008, artist/ photographer, Mar...tin Klimas presented ‘Ceramic Explosion’ at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA: From a height of three meters, porcelain figurines are dropped on the ground, and the sound they make when they hit trips the shutter release. The result: razor-sharp images of disturbing beautytemporary sculptures made visible to the human eye by high-speed photography technology. The porcelain statuette bursting into pieces isn't what really captures the attention; the fascination lies in the genesis of a dynamic figure that replaces the static pose. In contrast to the inertnessn of the intact kitsch figurines Klimas started out with, the photograterphs of their destruction possess a powerfully narrative character.as Stay tuned to hear more about Martin Klimas and his work as presented through EASTERN//ACTIVE.

Some big things coming up for our Wing Chun classes and EA gym foundation!

With the recent press around nurse and doctor safety, the recognition for passive self defence seems imperative. Wing Chun has been something that has been adapted for this type of professional work in the past; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IJ_5kl6iZY... With a need towards protecting oneself in a physically threatening situation maintaining recognition for a patient’s well-being can be tricky, even with the aid of a personal alarm and security staff on hand; situations can escalate to severity very quickly. With DI::Wing Chun’s focus on a Yin style system for health, the call for defensive training with the omission of major offence seems paramount within the health services industry; with the focus of both worker and patient safety at the forefront, DI has put together such a module. The techniques being taught are independent of the size of the person with minimum damage to both the patient and the practitioner. The system is comprised of a variety of specialized movements, blocking techniques, holds and locks.
