June is Pride month. Unfortunately, the festivities will be on hold. It’s supposed to be a time for not just revelry, but for action and community. But this year the revelry will be practised at safe distances from one another. . . Its an occasion that is celebrated the world over. It’s a time for being welcomed into a new community for many. From adults, to the children of those adults, it’s a time to create a bond of acceptance, love and understanding. But the format will ...have to change temporarily. Community outreach will mean even more as we restrict our movement and interactions with each other to keep one another safe. . . In line with our community stance, we will be donating proceeds from the sale of these specific Pride Samosa Trays to the ASAAP (Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention). . . Happy Pride Month! . . @asaaptoronto #asaap #pride #pridetoronto #pride2020 #gourmetfoods #samosas #eastyork #torontoeastend #torontofood #torontofoodies #nocontactdelivery #gourmetdelivery #covid2020 #quarantinesnacks #isolationsnacks #torontofoodblog #blogto #torontolife #torontoeats #thebeachestoronto #leslieville #leaside #riverdale #danforth See more

Father’s Day. We jokingly call it, Not Mother’s Day at home and work. Dads are the hardest to buy anything for. Go ahead, ask my sister and mother and even my own wife, they’ll agree. But when it boils right down to it, they all want the same thing, which is to spend time with their families, which our platter was designed to do. . . We designed our platter to be shared among 4 to 6 people. Everything on the platter is handcrafted by us. You can find the full description on... our website (eastofyork.com). If you’d like to place your order, email us at [email protected]. We will arrange pick up time slots (11am to 5pm) with you on a first-come, first-served basis. They are $125 plus tax and are extremely limited. . . #fathersday #fathersday2020 #fathersdaygiftideas #gourmetfoods #samosas #eastyork #torontoeastend #torontofood #torontofoodies #nocontactdelivery #gourmetdelivery #covid2020 #quarantinesnacks #isolationsnacks #torontofoodblog #blogto #torontolife #torontoeats #thebeachestoronto #leslieville #leaside #riverdale #danforth

This Mother’s Day is going to be a bit different. It’ll be a year of new traditions, of less togetherness than we’re all used to. I’ll be spending the day with my family and doing my part to give the mother that keeps so much going while I’m running the restaurant a much-deserved break. Usually, I’d spend it with the other mothers in my life too; my own, who so many call Mom, my mother-in law, and my adopted mom, who has welcomed me into her family for so many years, but th...is year, my presence will be felt through drop-offs of food and flowers, and waves from the sidewalk instead of the embraces they all deserve. Moms keep so much together, juggle so many balls, and do so much quiet, important work, especially in our current situation. After a lot of thought, I came up with a token of appreciation for you to share with yours. It’s a unique item, one that I don’t usually sell, and I want to make it for the moms in your lives. It’s an assortment, sweet and savory, locally sourced, perfect for grazing, and one that should keep the moms in your life from being asked to provide kids with snacks for an entire day, once mom has picked out all her favourite parts (are anyone else’s kids asking for an endless amount of snacks?). They feed 4-6 people well and we can do vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. I spoke with the moms in my life, and they all agreed that a break from the routines we’ve all fallen into would be a nice way to spend the day. Let us help you give them a break, even if you all stay home together. And Reena, I promise there’s a weekend away coming, once this is all over. Place your order by Sunday May 3rd by calling us at tel:(416)421-9990 or emailing us at mailto:[email protected] . We will be doing deliveries for Mother’s Day and will be available on a first come-first served basis. Orders are limited. #mothersday #mothersdaygift #mothersdaygiftideas #gourmetfoods #samosas #eastyork #torontoeastend #torontofood #torontofoodies #nocontactdelivery #gourmetdelivery #covid2020 #quarantinesnacks #isolationsnacks #torontofoodblog #blogto #torontolife #torontoeats #thebeachestoronto #leslieville #leaside #riverdale #danforth

A very happy Passover to those who celebrate. These kosher platters were comprised with our infamous four day rosemary garlic brisket on a bed of Jammy onions and thyme jus, herbed potato kugel, haricots verts in orange blossom dressing and candied orange peel, charred broccoli with roasted almonds in roasted garlic dressing, oblique candied carrots dressed in thyme, and roasted asparagus. Thank you to all our clients who ordered these boards tonight.... #passover #brisket #ottolenghi #eastofyork #leslieville #danforth #torontofoodies #thedannybia #torontofood #torontocaterers #gourmetdelivery #blogto #torontolife #torontoeats #thebeachestoronto #leaside #torontoeastend

A few days ago, my five-year-old decided the Easter Bunny wasn’t real. It’s one of those things that you know is coming as a parent, but this year, with so much else out of whack, I decided I’d do what I could to keep his imagination alive for one more year, and put an Indian twist on it. I think he bought it. He’s got a little sister. We need to keep it going for a little longer. It’s challenging, being a parent right now. Our kids miss their friends, they’ve dropped their... routines. They’re snacking so, so much. This week, we all had to fit another thing into our strange, busy lives with the addition of e-learning (and teaching e-learning, if you’re a teacher). And this weekend, those of us who celebrate Easter get to try and spin it through a global pandemic. I think for most of us, it’ll mean changing up the traditions we’ve have in years past and trying to make new memories for our kids. Maybe I can help you out. Maybe the samosa bunny can visit your house too. They’re on special this week. The first dozen is $8.85, two dozen are $15, and if you’re feeling as snacky as your kids, three dozen are $20. We can deliver them frozen or cooked, and you can add them to your Easter celebrations however you want. They’re fun, colourful, healthy, and delicious. They can be the appetizer, or the main course, or I can make you the main course and drop everything off and you can just snack on these all day long. I won’t tell anyone how many you order. There are vegetables in there. They’re good for you. Place your order by calling us at tel:(416)421-9990 or emailing us at mailto:[email protected] the day before you need it. It’ll be there by the time you need dinner, with quick instructions on pulling a delicious, healthy, nourishing meal for your family together in minutes. _ #easterbasket #gourmetfoods #samosas #eastyork #torontoeastend #torontofood #torontofoodies #nocontactdelivery #gourmetdelivery #covid2020 #quarantinesnacks #isolationsnacks #torontofoodblog #blogto #torontolife #torontoeats #thebeachestoronto #leslieville #leaside #riverdale #danforth

The last two weeks have been a whirlwind. We’re hanging on, feeding lots of fine people, and grateful that we haven’t had to start making hard decisions around our staff family. My family family hasn’t seen me much as I’d like, but they understand that this is better than the alternative of not being busy. I wanted to find a way to say thank you, and since I’m good at feeding you, I thought that might be a great way. We’re going to do a draw, but it’s not just for us. We’re ...acutely aware that small businesses are hurting in every field as we work together to battle Covid-19 by hanging out at home, and I picked up a gift certificate from our neighbour, Mary, who had a birthday this week. Mary is closed, but shipping her amazing Brigadeiro all over Canada. If you haven’t tried this Brazilian treat, now is an excellent time to indulge a little. To win, $25 for East of York and $25 for Mary’s, follow East of York and Mary’s Brigadeiro, and tell us one thing you love about living on The Danforth in the comments. It can be a business, or an event, or whatever. We’ll draw someone for dinner and dessert on Friday; just in time for a break from cooking on the weekend. If you need a break any other day this week, we’ve got you. Our menu is available online, and we’re happy to bring it by and not say hi. Our business has been deemed essential by The City of Toronto, so we’ll be staying open for takeout and delivery until life gets back to normal (but we’ll also be open after that too, if all goes according to plan). Place your order by calling us at tel:(416)421-9990 or emailing us at mailto:[email protected] the day before you need it. It’ll be there by the time you need dinner, with quick instructions on pulling a delicious, healthy, nourishing meal for your family together in minutes. **This picture was taken weeks before physical distancing existed.

I started East of York five years ago, and we opened our doors three weeks before my wife Reena and I welcomed our first child. My life before that was very different. I worked in corporate, for a company, in a role where I’d reached my ceiling. I’ve loved cooking for as long as I remember, and one day, going into that desk job wasn’t enough. East of York was a chance that I took and roped Mom into. ... I’ve been eating this food, in various ways via her kitchen for my whole life, and I knew no one could do it as well as her and I could, because it’s genuinely unique. It’s Caribbean (West Indian) meets East Indian, like my parents. Made with a Toronto flare. Kind of like me. Our food takes a one table approach. It’s for everyone. Old and young, no matter where you come from. It’s for you. If you’ve got dietary restrictions, we have something for you. If you’re vegan, we’ve got you too. The good thing about what I do is that it’s ever evolving. Just like our neighbourhood. Just like this situation. Every day that we get to keep our doors open is a little victory and proof that I have the best customers in the city and I was right to walk away from that office tower job all those years ago and onto The Danforth, and now, onto your porch. This week has been hard. I’m sure your kids are climbing the walls, just like mine, and we’re all trying so hard to keep our community healthy by staying away from each other. We’ll keep making you dinner as long as you need to eat. I promise I’ll keep not saying hi. Place your order by calling us at tel:(416)421-9990 or emailing us at mailto:[email protected] the day before you need it. It’ll be there by the time you need dinner, with quick instructions on pulling a delicious, healthy, nourishing meal for your family together in minutes.

Things are changing quickly. As soon as we get our feet under us, some new information appears. I think we’re all feeling the uncertainty hard. Small businesses are being promised supports, but what that means is still vague, and little businesses like mine and my neighbours on the Danforth are worried what two weeks or more of reduced (or potentially) no business will mean for us. Small businesses support families. They’re community lifelines for so many, whether you’re an... owner, or staff, or a patron. And on the Danforth, we’re family. When you order from East of York, you’re supporting my little family. And in turn, I’m supporting the families around us. I’m buying my produce from the stands a block away, my meat from a butcher a little further down the Danforth. Your money is staying in this community, and keeping so many family businesses going. And in exchange, we’ll keep you fed the best we can, and without ever saying a word to each other, we’ll stay connected and strong. You do your part and stay home. Place your order by calling us at tel:(416)421-9990 or emailing us at mailto:[email protected] the day before you need it. It’ll be there by the time you need dinner, with quick instructions on pulling a delicious, healthy, nourishing meal for your family together in minutes.

So you’re just getting back from vacation, or a work trip, and now you’re back to reality (we hope you had a great time), and you’ve been advised to self-quarantine for two weeks. Sorry, that sucks. But we’re here for you. With samosas, and mom’s famous beans and rice, and that baked hot and crunchy chicken sandwich you’ve been meaning to try for months now. Maybe your kids want butter chicken schnitzel tacos. ... They definitely want a cookie for dessert. Give us a call. We’ll drop you a fresh meal with no contact delivery, so we all get to keep holding up our end of the bargain to keep our communities safe. And that cookie? Get one for yourself too. And maybe some curries for tomorrow. They’ll keep in your fridge. Place your order by calling us at tel:(416)421-9990 or emailing us at mailto:[email protected] the day before you need it. It’ll be there by the time you need dinner, with quick instructions on pulling a delicious, healthy, nourishing meal for your family together in minutes.

East of York has been part of Toronto East for five years. We’ve fed you at birthday parties, park dates, and when you were just too tired to cook on Friday nights. Our samosas were the perfect food for your business openings, and for your babies as they discovered food for the first time. We’re family. And we want to get through what’s coming next along with you. We’re worried about Covid-19, for our families, just like you, but as small business owners, it’s a little more ...than that. We’re worried that when you decide to do the responsible thing and stay home a little more that you won’t be picking up that dinner, and after a while, for us, that’s going to be hard. And it might be hard for you too. Since you’ll have to make dinner. And you’ve got enough on your plate right now. For the next while, we’re going to make things easy for you. Phone in an order time and we’ll drop it off. Place an order for one dinner, or two, or for you and that neighbor down the street that you’re thinking about. Not sure what to make? Let us throw some things together that are delicious and healthy and will keep you going as you keep your family going. Place a standing Tuesday order with us. Or maybe Friday night is when you need it. We’ll pop by, drop it off without saying hi, and you’ll keep our jars until next time. We’re a community. And caring for one another is what will get us through this. Place your order by calling us at tel:(416)421-9990 or emailing us at mailto:[email protected] the day before you need it. It’ll be there by the time you need dinner, with quick instructions on pulling a delicious, healthy, nourishing meal for your family together in minutes.
