The Grade 8 classes were learning about setting Muskrat traps this week. Here are some pictures from Tuesday's trip.

Students who are interested in completing Science Projects for the E3SS Science Fair need to touch base with their Science Teacher to get additional details. Projects will need to be finalized by April 14th to be considered to the E3SS competition.

The Northern Youth Climate Summit (NYCS) is a virtual conference that will take place on May 20 & 21, 2021 from 9:30 AM (PST) - 4:30 PM (PST). High schools (Grades 9 - 12) from all over northern British Columbia, northern Alberta, the Northwest Territories, the Yukon and Nunavut are invited to gather together a group of 6 12 students to form a Climate Action Team that will attend NYCS with the goal of creating a Climate Action Plan (CAP) for their school/community. We hope... to have 50 Climate Action Teams (up to 600 students) in attendance. We will have 3 Keynote speakers and several breakout sessions to help guide students through the causes, consequences and solutions of our climate in crisis. The goal of NYCS is to task students with creating a 3 - 5 item climate action plan (CAP) to implement in their school community or local community. Our hope is that they will develop a creative, thoughtful CAP that administrators will appreciate and support. The Youth Multimedia Contest is a celebration of the water and lands and our connection to our environment. We are encouraging youth to get outdoors and share their relationships to water and land in all its forms, through photography, video, and art. Our hope is to have entries from every community in the NWT! Prizes will be awarded to the top submissions and runners-up in each category. We have some exciting prizes for each category and more! Before the break started, the Grade 8 Science classes completed an Actua at School activity. Students had to budget, design, and construct a structure that would stay standing on the permafrost (kinetic sand) and undergo a stress test under earthquake conditions (a simple cardboard shake table).

Our Physics 20 class spent this morning teaching some Kindergarten students the difference between static and kinetic energy. They used examples found in the playground.

Wendnesday September 30th is Orange Shirt Day. Please join us in wearing an orange shirt (or other orange items) to school. NCTR is hosting a virtual event for youth in Grade 5-12 who are interested.

Town of Inuvik Youth Representative If you are a Grade 10-12 student interested in being the Youth Representative on the Inuvik Town Council, please drop off a letter of interest to the E3SS Office. If you are the successful applicant, you will attend 4 Council meetings each month as well as sit on the Town of Inuvik Recreation, Parks and Library Advisory Board for their monthly meetings. In exchange for participating and attending meetings, the Town will provide the student a bursary for post-secondary education that can total up to a maximum of $5000.00.

Hello East Three Secondary Family, Schedules for all returning East Three Students, who are not 19 or older or turning 19 before December 31,2020 are ready for pickup. We are still finalizing a few or the individual schedule requests and will do our best to have those in place by 5:00pm today. For all Grade 10-12 students who are new to East Three Secondary School, we will have a schedule for you by 5:00pm on Saturday. Students can come to the front foyer and pick up the...ir schedules. If they need to make any changes, we will make those adjustments on Monday. Grade 7-9 class lists will be post on the front doors on Sunday and they will receive their schedules on Monday. SFA is excited to announce two new benefits available to all full-time post-secondary students to assist with increased costs related to COVID19. These grants ...are available for the 2020-21 academic year. The COVID-19 Technology Grant is a one-time grant of $750. This benefit can be used to purchase technology equipment. Report cards that were not picked up on Friday have been mailed out. We are open until 4pm today if anybody has any textbooks or school materials to drop off. There are some teen/young adult novels that are free to whoever would like them. They are in boxes on the curb in front of the school. Some by and grab a few for your summer reading. You don’t have to be a student to grab a book.

Update: We would like is for all vehicles to meet at the MSRC at 6:45pm. The fire trucks would lead them from there to the entrance to the parade route and lead them through, then allow them to exit through the elementary side. This way there would be no congestion or vehicles fighting to get in.
