As usual, they spouted their intentions but didn't have a clue how to accomplish them. They failed and the mortgage rules have been eased again. There is a legal doctrine in criminal law known as "The Thin Skulled Rule". If you strike someone, even with minimal force, and it causes devastating harm or de...ath, aggravated by a pre-existing condition like a thin skull....it is still murder. "You take your victims as you find them". This talk of pre-existing conditions or intoxicants in a victim's system, is blaming the victim. The Minneapolis police can no more use this defence than you or I. See more

We are getting increasing phone calls from people wanting to change their Wills or proceed with separation agreements or pre-nups or business contracts. I have staff with compromised immune systems and there is no way I am risking their safety. They continue to work with Real Estate clients remotely and for that I am grateful. Real Estate: We have enough staff on the ground to continue to assist people with sales, purchases or refinances. Documents can be faxed to (705) 792-0...880 or sent via email to [email protected]. Don't forget the "s" on legals. Wills: You can do a holographic Will or a holographic Codicil with changes to your existing Will. It has to be in your own handwriting, dated and signed. If you use witnesses they can't also be a beneficiary. The risks? When I take Will instructions, no one else is in the room and I have to assess the person's capacity and swear an affidavit that they had capacity and there was no undue influence. I can't do that with a holographic Will. Once this pandemic is over, and we are again taking in person appointments, I can quickily replace the holographic document with one that is more secure. Be patient and stay healthy. Separation agreements, contracts, etc: Almost all of these documents require two lawyers. One drafts and the other provides independent legal advice. I insist on meeting with the client personally to be able to assess the whole situation and provide the most effective advice I can. The chances of the parties meeting personally with two lawyers at this time is virtually nil. Unfortunately you will have to manitain the status quo until it is safe to book appointments. When we aren't solving legal problems we do some vintage auto racing. The 55 holds two track records at the Pure Stock Muscle Car drags in Stanton, Michigan: oldest car to ever qualify and only 6 volt car. Best E.T. in the quarter mile was 17.833 seconds @ 78.8 mph. Sometimes it's hard to determine if internet reviews are genuine or generated by the entity being reviewed. You have to ask yourself "Would a client actually say that about a lawyer?". In the words of Judge Judy, if it doesn't sound right, it's not true. I am so grateful for the unsolicited reviews. Makes going to work all the more rewarding.

Wow. Phone has been ringing with real estate deals and my calendar is full with people needing Wills. Looks like the long winter has ended and people are starting to plan ahead. Should be a busy summer.
