I know this is something so many families in this area struggle with - looks like it is province wide unfortunately.

This is a great idea - you could put any photo under and it is also working on fine motor skills!

Hi everyone! I know that wearing a mask can be difficult for some of our family members so regarding the announcement of mandatory masks in all public places y...esterday, Peace Autism Society reached out to the City of GP to ask if exemptions will be made. Here is what they had to say People with sensory challenges were discussed while we debated the Bylaw. It was important to Council that they be accommodated. The Bylaw contains a few exemptions. One is "unable to wear a Face Covering (Mask) due to a medical or physical concern or limitation, or protected ground under the Alberta Human Rights Act, RSA 2000, Chapter 25.5;" So that would exempt a person with autism or other disabilities if their disability makes them unable to wear a face covering. Another important exemption is for someone "who is a designated care giver for or accompanying a person with a disability where wearing a Face Covering (Mask) would hinder the accommodation of the person’s disability;" So if an individual’s disability leads to them having anxiety or other difficulties if their caregiver wears a mask, the caregiver would also be exempt. The approach to start will be to just take people on their word if they say they are exempt. No card or proof is necessary at this time.

I don't know about you, but this has been a tough parenting season for us. The fear is real, the hard conversations are in full swing, and it seems like the sma...llest things require significant cost/benefit analyses. I thought it might be a good time to dig back into The Gifts of Imperfect Parenting research. It's been helping us (huge thanks to all of the research participants). This first learning is a reminder of the core finding from this research: Some of the best strategies rely on modeling the behaviors we want to see. Turns out that we need to be the adult that we want our kids to grow up to be. Dammit. There is immeasurable power in our children watching us practice self-kindness vs. berating ourselves or putting ourselves down when we stumble, fail, or make mistakes. And, no matter how we encourage them to talk to themselves, they are definitely watching to see what really matters. And, letting them in on our process is equally as powerful: "I really dropped the ball today and I'm struggling to be kind to myself about it and talk to myself the way I'd talk to someone I love." Modeling, normalizing that it isn't easy, and connecting. Y'all have a great weekend! Awkward, brave and kind, folks.

Excellent local service provider!

Eat Sleep and Grow 10.12.2019

Effective July 1st, FFP will no longer be a multidisciplinary clinic. If you are a current client, you shouldnt see any big change in your service delivery as ...all therapists and some assistants will be continuing with their caseloads, just under their own companies. Some will still be located in the clinic. If you are on our waitlist, we will do our best to help you access services. FFP will continue to operate, but will only be occupational therapy services. Please feel free to contact Evelyne if you have any questions. See more

Receptive Language Milestones- coming at ya! Remember Milestones means 90% of children can master this skill by this age- there is a range here because a lot ca...n - and should- happen during a 12 month period. But, if you child is not able to demonstrate these skills by 24 months of age, it is likely a good time to schedule an evaluation. If you child has known delays, these are some early developing skills to model in play and also to practice! 2-3 year milestones are coming out tomorrow! See more

As a therapist who works with families and kids with special needs I hear Moms and Dads often say they were embarrassed by the meltdown their child had in the store because someone made a comment, or someone said something about how they parent, or comments on why their child doesnt eat or sleep, etc... So next time, instead of offering our opinion why not offer empathy. Trust that people are doing the best they can given all the moving pieces of their life. Lets be acutely aware that we are witnessing one moment in a journey. Dont hold judgment, show empathy.
