Eat 2 Run 28.10.2020

Come join me on Tuesday, April 23rd! Salomon in West Vancouver is bringing me in to give a mini (1-hr) workshop on how to become a fat-adapted athlete - a topic that I'm super passionate about as I both teach it and live it on the daily. Would love to see you there! Info and sign up through Salomon via Eventbrite...

About 98% of clients that come my way would like to lose weight. Even if they don't mention "weight loss" as a goal, they will write their goal bodyweight down as less than their actual current weight. I find this fascinating, but not surprising, as achieving lasting healthful fat loss is actually quite involved. I know this because despite all the knowledge I've been gaining over 17 years of working and being educated in the health, fitness and nutrition world, I've been struggling most of of my life to get there. And just when I was beginning to think it was near impossible, I landed on it. Here is my successful fat loss story mixed in with my advice for those wishing for optimal body composition...

How to Heal (from chronic or acute injury) - in this post I go into depth on how to heal from various types of injury commonly sustained by runners. I've been wanting to write this for a while now, partly because I encounter injured runners so often (and have helped many successfully return to running!) and partly because I personally just went through my own healing story last year. The human body is amazing - it wants to heal (it’s always striving for optimal health) and given the right tools, it can often do so faster than expected.

Having been a bit MIA from this page here, wanted to make the first post back a good one - so here's a link to my newest most absolute favourite snack pre long run (or pre hard run or pre strength training). If you're looking for a very easy to digest something to give you the energy you need for those intense or long workouts, these are a must try! In fact I even carried four of these bad boys with me to Arizona, eating two the day before and two the morning of my most recent 100 miler, which was an amazing race... And I'm sure these bars had a little something to do with that?!! ;)

New post! My blogging has been sporadic these days, but I've been wanting to write on this topic for some time now. Years ago I'd have scoffed at the question of whether brown rice or white rice is the better choice (I mean, the answer is obviously brown!!). Today I acknowledge it's a rather deep question and the answer depends on the situation and the individual...

Yesterday I had the honour of speaking to a group of endurance athletes about how to become better ‘fat burners’ to boost performance on race day - strategically utilizing LCHF and periodizing carbs to get the best of both worlds. Thanks to Uthrive for bringing me in / hosting and making delicious fat bombs and paleo granola for everyone, and to Ergogenics and My Matcha Life for providing take home goodies. Loved demoing / sharing one of my favourite recipes - Spiced Hot Cacao Paleo Latte - with everyone! (Recipe here: https://eat2run.com/recipe/spiced-hot-cacao-matcha-kick/)

Have you tried these energy bars yet? They are a pre-run favourite - so I'm told by many clients! One bar offers 36 grams of carbohydrate, which is about how much you'd want to be taking in about 1-2 hours before a hard or long run.

In my hast to make my 'comeback' to running (after breaking my foot in January), I'm often reminded in various ways to be patient. This article, by guest blogger Kinsey Middleton (she got married since writing the article!) was one of those great reminders. Her comeback keeps getting better - she ran a 33:20 Sun Run 10k last year, and a 1:13:52 half marathon in at the IAAF Works Half Marathon Championships just 2 months ago!! Talk about patience leading to an amazing comeback :) And there's some great pre-race fueling ideas in here!!
