I learned how to make vasilopita at a young age. I was always so excited imagining what coin my parents might have picked from my dad’s coin collection. Every year I wanted it to be the biggest, heaviest sterling coin and I wished so hard to be the lucky one to get it. It’s just Ian and I counting down to the new year tonight, but I’m still going to make a vasilopita. I’ve decided to use this recipe from my cookbook (posted in comments below)it’s similar in taste to the vas...ilopita mom makes, but syrupyand I love the citrus syrup. I’m going to skip the pistachios I think. I welcome you to make a vasilopita too. If you do, wrap a coin or a metal amulet/charm in foil before stirring into the batter. (Use metal please. Don’t use anything that will melt!) We like using charmsthen the lucky person can attach the charm to their key chain, and keep the blessing close to them all year.
