You Changed Her Diaper Today was a rare gem sort of a day. As I went to our daughter’s room to get her out of bed, fully expecting a dirty diaper, I first noticed she had a different pair of pajamas on. My body stiffened in self defence and I rolled my eyes thinking you had changed her last night because you thought the ones she was in all day were dirty. Then, I saw the wipes on the floor and started to piece it all together. I asked our daughter, did daddy change your diap...er this morning? An ecstatic, YES was her reply. She immediately continued to look for you and wasn’t deterred at all when I said you were at work. She was determined to go get him! You were her hero, the first thing on her mind this morning. I learned today. I learned to not be so quick to judge your kindness and thoughtfulness as an attack to my mothering abilities. I learned that you are saying I love you, partner instead of echoing that voice in my own head that screams, why can’t you do your job?!. I learned that even though you had to get up at 4:30 this morning for work, you carved out a few precious minutes to care for our daughter which inevitably also cared for me. Your act of tenderness and compassion has brought an unexpected charm and humility and tender love to my day. Thankyou, dear Lord, for a man who changes her diaper! See more
