NEW WINE CLUB With the nights cooling down and calling on us to nestle up with warming reds, we’ve opened up our new wine club for this November... Our club is inspired by the celestial symbols of the Synoptic weather chart; a reflection of how we grow and take inspiration from the natural forces around us. Our biodynamic methods at Echo bay observe the rhythms and cycles of the earth, sun, moon and stars. By observing these rhythms, we're able to develop a full expression... of our vineyard in each of our wines. Our wine club line up features our 2017 vintage, which consists of 4 cuvées: - Nella, our Sangiovese (only 20 cases made) - Cabernet Franc ‘0’, a zero-sulphite added CF (only 24 cases made) - Cabernet Franc, with 50% new oak - Synoptic, our signature Bordeaux-style blend Your wine will be sent out mid-November, just in time for the start of après-ski season and intimate holiday parties. We have three membership tiers, and a gift option is also available. Check out the club at the link in our bio! #minimalistwineclub #v17 #theheartofwinecountry #echobayvineyard

A pet-nat of Petit Verdot was born from the most sudden end to our 2019 season. Unexpected challenges can bring about the most wonderful creations when you adapt and flow with what is given. . . A slight fizz and a beguiling palate, this pet-nat is a quite the dainty charmer. Most have found a home but if you’re in the Vancouver area, you may find them at these fine establishments @legacyliquorstore @libertywinecd @kitswine .... . #petnat #zeroadditions #echobayvineyard See more

The good stuff . . Today we dug up the second round of Prep 500 from it being buried in the ground since last October. We found it had a greater maturation from a month and a half ago when we dug up our first few horns. Going forward we will extend its maturation time in ground from the suggested 6 months to 9. .... . When following a system such as biodynamics and dealing with diverse climates, it’s helpful to experiment with timing. Like any farming, guidelines are useful but it’s personal trial and error that really allows the philosophies to work best for you. . . Our last spray of 500 was at budbreak to stimulate microbial life in the soil. As the weather is warming up, we will use it and nettle tea as a spray for our vulnerable sections of vine to protect from heat stress . . #biodynamicvineyards #prep500 #holisticfarming #echobayvineyard See more

Say hello to Chip ‘n’ Dale, the newest members of our farm. . . These brothers love ear scratches, belly rubs and eating just about everything. Hanging out beneath the Saskatoon berry bushes has been a popular spot so far. .... . Kunekune pigs are originally from New Zealand are the grazers of the pig world. We’ll eventually get a fence to move them around the vineyard but for now they are roaming free and trying to make friends with the chickens and Corey the duck. Stage 1: Fruit set & rapid cell division . . Flowering has ended and now we can see the tiny berries forming from a successful self-fertilization. Acids and phenolics will be accumulating and over the next month we see these green berries grow towards bunch closure. .... . In the vineyard, the basal leaves have been stripped away and we are now into straightening our vines (especially important on slopes as they crowd together), allowing for more sunlight and increased airflow. . . We are continuing with our holistic sprays of sulfur, yarrow, nettle and alfalfa, which combines anti-fungal and nutrient-rich components to our vines. . . Happy Wednesday! . . #fruitset #celldivision #holiscticfarming #theheartofwinecountry #echobayvineyard See more

As a family-run small business we believe in equality, justice and the collective strength of our voices and actions. . . The status quo is causing harm and we’ve been part of the problem. As a company and as individuals it is time for us to re-educate ourselves and look into how we are participating in the perpetuation of racism within our community and our industry. .... . This week we will take a break from posting about our usual winegrowing content in order to create more space for BIPOC voices to be heard on this platform.
