Potential. That's all I see when I look at this photo of The Beast. My feelings on the other hand are complicated. For the past two years I have been growing our flowers in a 1/4 acre, well sheltered plot, fully visible from our kitchen window. I know its ins and outs like the back of my hand. It is a very comfortable garden in size and reward, but its space is limited and I want to GROW! This season, all of our annuals will make their home in The Beast. A garden with one m...oderately successful, very weedy, trial and error season under its belt. My relationship with this space being so new, the prospect of placing months of seedling babies into its soil is very exciting, but also daunting and a bit nerve wracking. Good relationships, whether human or environmental, are built on trust, effort, care, and time...apprehension aside, I'm pretty sure this garden and I have a solid future ahead of us. #flowerfarm #localflowerfarm #grandeprairiealberta #badheartalberta #flowerfarmer #womenwhofarm #sustainableflowers #localflowers #slowflowers #seasonalblooms #zone3 #inspiredbynature #100percentlocallygrown #lowmileageflowers #newbeginnings #driedflowersfordays #potential

Along with @flowersbywillows, I managed to score some incredibly unique Cyril Clarke peonies from the local homestead of a dear friend. These plants were gifted to the family matriarch by the man himself decades ago and remained lush and gorgeous at the hands such a talented gardener. This should be the year I begin to see some blooms and I am so excited...I have no idea what colours or style to expect, but I know I am going to love every single one! #localflowerfarm #northernflowerfarm #grandeprairiealberta #100percentlocal #inspiredbynature #fieldtovase #womenwhofarm #flowerswithhistory #specialblooms #sustainableflowers #slowflowers #peony

Every season I task myself with a growing challenge or two....or many. Sometimes it looks like taking a failed crop (I'm looking at you celosia!) and pouring a lot of hours into research and prep in the hope that maybe, just maybe, I can pull off a successful harvest before it gets the forever axe. Sometimes it means making a great first time crop (ranunculus) into an amazing crop by tweaking a few easily corrected manmade errors. The best challenges though, are the ones whi...ch throw me into an entirely new to me flower, especially one that I never thought I'd be able to grow in a 90 day growing season. This year, that flower is Lisianthus. Will this tiny seedling started in January morph into a beautiful long stemmed fluffy bloom in August? I have no idea, but it's worth a try! (Special thanks to my friend @jlynnflorals for a mid December pep talk...you made it sound attainable!) #northernflowerfarm #sustainableflowers #slowflowers #seedtovase #localflowers #alwayslearning #grandeprairiealberta #peacecountrybeauty #patienceiskey #flowerfarmer #lisianthus

It's been a slow-to-build love for myself and daffodils. I've always admired their perky nature, but found them quite boring and old fashioned to be honest. My opinion has changed...drastically! Two years into flower farming and they have become a favourite crop. Low maintenance, zone 3 hardy, delightful shapes and tones, early blooms, and as I mentioned above, they are as perky as can be. How do you feel about daffodils?... #flowerfarm #localflowerfarm #grandeprairiealberta #badheartalberta #grownnotflown #slowflowers #hardyplants #sustainableflowers #zone3 #100percentlocal #lowfootprintflowers #ethicalfarming #fieldtovase #inspiredbynature #daffodil
