Here are some things to look for and remember about reborn dolls: - First any of those sites/ads that claim they have reborns and silicones for $100-$200 or less are ALL scams. If you manage to get anything at all it’s a poorly made counterfeit full of potentially harmful chemicals. Don’t fall for it! There is no such thing as silicone vinyl, the two are incompatible and don't mix. - Most "reborn doll sites" are scams and sell factory made dolls from stolen sculpts. Do your h...omework on the babies you're interested in and if you're not sure ask someone or make a post in one of the reborn doll groups. - The artists who sculpt these dolls put a lot of time and hard work into giving us beautiful kits to be painted and loved. Buying stolen kits goes against everything the artists work so hard to achieve. They may be more cost effective, but they're also more dangerous, and not realistic. - Blank kits alone usually cost an artist $100+ before they put any work into it - Try looking at a reborns for $100/$200 or less group if that is your budget, you may find a pre-loved or boo boo doll there - Ashton Drake or Paradise galleries are nicer factory made dolls that can make a good and more affordable alternative to a artist made reborn - Ask for a safety photo with the sellers name, the date, the sculpt of the doll and something unique that they can’t fake (fork on head, pop can on tummy, ect) - Rooted hair will only last so long with play, cuddles and brushing. It will wear out over time even with the most careful collectors and well made dolls so keep that in mind. If you want something that lasts better go for painted hair or bald - Silicones without a full body typically start at $1000+ some silicones are over $10,000. This is due to the high costs of materials to make them and the difficulty of the art. How to care for your reborn: - Full body vinyl can’t be bathed or it will grow harmful mold inside from the moisture - Never use baby wipes, or baby powder on the vinyl as it will ruin the paint. - You can dust the baby with a new makeup or soft paintbrush. - Wash hands well before handling your reborn - Avoid touching the vinyl as much as you can, as oils from your hands will make your reborn shiny over time - If doll gets shiny from oils you can use diluted dawn dish soap with water to gently wash and then rinse the vinyl parts only, taking extreme care to not get the cloth body wet. - Avoid using dark colored clothes as they can contain a lot of dye that can turn the vinyl. - Do not leave in direct sunlight, and do not leave in overly hot or overly cold temperatures.
