Attention Luxton Parents! WSD is looking at dramatically cutting their budget thanks to a funding freeze from the provincial government in a pandemic. There are several alarming cuts including funding for PT and OT services in the schools. These cuts would really hurt children with special needs, especially in low-income families. From Trish Cooper- Parent Council Chair: As many of you will know, Sandra Schalla was an EA at Ecole Luxton School until her retirement last year. We were heartbroken to hear that she died last week. She was loving and patient and got a kick out of these kids and their antics. She had the perfect combination of compassion and discipline and had a great sense of humour. I got to know her when my son was in grade one. ... These photos are from a school trip to the farm. I was able to come on the field trip but had just had surgery so couldn’t do any lifting. WSD employees aren’t supposed to lift because of health and safety protocols. Isaac, being in a wheelchair, couldn’t see some of the animals. Before I could say anything, I looked over and Sandra had lifted him up so he could see. I told her she didn’t have to do that, and she just smiled, waving me off and doing it again to get him on the pony. I’m so grateful the kids experienced her warmth and kindness. Mrs. Schalla regularly went above and beyond the call of duty for the kids she took care of and they adored her. We did too. She will be remembered with so much love. On behalf of Luxton parents, we send our condolences to Kevin and her family. From Ms. Howard- Room 13: Sandra Schalla worked closely with myself and Mrs. McNabb during her time at Ecole Luxton School. I had the pleasure of working with her for three years in Room 13. Sandra was an incredibly patient, kind and caring individual. She offered support to all of the children in the room and students loved Mrs. Schalla’s gentle nature. She was incredibly professional and loved her job and the kids more than anything. I am truly heartbroken that she has passed and she has been missed in Room 13 since she left Luxton School. Rest in peace Sandra.

It is wonderful to connect with so many parents and caregivers and receive updates about what is happening at school. Fundraising for PAC has mostly been put on the back burner, as we focus our efforts on supporting students, teachers and our school community in more direct ways this year. Thank you to all who were able to join us for the AGM last night! It was a great turn out and so wonderful to connect as a school community once again! Executive positions for the 2020/2021 school year have been elected as follows: - Chair: Trish Cooper - Vice-Chair: Kirby Fults... - Secretary: Jessica Bergen - Treasurer: Tara Zajac - Member at Large: Amanda Wilson PAC has decided to take a step back from fundraising for the time being and, as such, we have not elected a Fundraising Coordinator at this time. We hope to reengage with our community partner, Pollocks Hardware Co-op, closer to the holidays to continue with our Beeswax Wraps & gift card fundraisers. Did you know there are a number of local makers from our community selling their products at Pollocks? PAC encourage everyone to shop local!
