In the beginning, Ecotrust Canada wanted to design a thriving economy that works for people and the planet. This mission was inspired in the early 90s, when logging of old-growth forests was challenged by coastal Indigenous communities Haida Nation, Nuu-chah-nulth Nations, Haisla Nation, and the Heiltsuk Nation. Thank you for partnering with us in using mapping, scientific data, and traditional knowledge to explore possible futures for your communities. #ThankYouThursday #GivingTuesday Our history: http://ow.ly/DeP250CptyC

For 10 years, Ecotrust Canada ran a bold experiment by lending capital to businesses focused on building wealth, human well-being, and environmental health. From 1998-2009, the Coastal Loan Fund extended 87 loans worth $10.7 million to entrepreneurs in rural, remote, and Indigenous communities. Clients were able to leverage an additional $40 million in loan capital, and approximately 900 jobs were created.
