Meet Aisha Abawajy, a fourth-year Computer Science & Political Science student, and Selam Abdella , a second-year International Development Studies & Political Science student at Dalhousie University, and they will both be leading one of the concurrent sessions today! They are both founding members of the Dalhousie Black, Indigenous and People of Colour Caucus (BIPOCUS). In this workshop, Aisha and Selam will explore the past, present and future of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) student leadership and what it means to be a BIPOC student leader. They will discuss what carving out space for BIPOC excellence looks like and how we can create a truly equitable campus and society. #ECSLC2018 #Dal200

Meet Rae, another one of our concurrent session presenters! Here’s a few words from Rae: Take charge, create change, speak up. Students are always being encouraged to act as leaders but are rarely cautioned to think critically about the roles they take on and the negative impacts that their actions can have. I’m elated to be presenting at my first ECSLC on mindful and appropriate leadership in the 21st century. It is my aim that following my session participants are abl...e to critically asses their own leadership roles past, present and future within a framework of their own intersectional identities. All the best, Rae J. #ECSLC2018 #DAL200

East Coast Student Leadership Conference 29.10.2020

Meet Lenka, one of our Concurrent Session presenters and also is part of our planning committee for #ECSLC2018! Here’s a few words from Lenka: I have attended many leadership meetings and conferences over the years, however, this year I will be presenting myself for the first time! Needless to say, I am super excited to present, met everyone and network. My session will be addressing mental illness in a leadership position for both those who suffer with mental illness and tho...se who do not. I will be teaching a valuable set of skills from Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT) that are applicable in a variety of areas, including your every day life. I’ll teach you how to implement these skills in a leadership position and how to be mindful of others. #DAL200

*CONCURRENT SESSION PRESENTER ANNOUNCEMENT* Meet Nicole, another one of our concurrent session presenters for ECSLC 2018! Nicole is a second year student at St. Thomas University, double majoring in political science and human rights.... You can find a little about Nicole and her presentation below. Sometimes, it can cause us pain to help others. It can be difficult to handle some of the things that being a leader can throw at us, but we’re just supposed to take it in stride right? I am excited to share about my experience as a leader and to have a conversation about recognizing that as leaders we are not invincible. I want to help you learn strategies for when being a leader hurts. #ECSLC2018 #DAL200
