It’s been a week of all the ponies wearing their big girl pants! Katniss went on her first real bushwhacking trail up the mountain and was an absolute champ. And Emmy worked a day of moving cows on the range. Also a champ! Times are a bit different and we’re just rolling with it.

How’s everyone doing out there? Me; some days I’m rocking it and others...well there are many days I put breeches on and don’t even get to ride. But with that said; it looks like Equestrian Canada is starting to open things back up and we can slowly begin to get back in the saddle. So bear with me while I figure out what the new guidelines mean and how they’ll apply to us and what things will look like going forwards. ... Please feel free to message me and we’ll get this ball rolling slowly. I hope you are all well and no one has cut their own bangs! https://www.equestrian.ca///original/cRSrWCZPbutzEN8Qg.pdf

Here is one of the ways we are still training horses but making smart choices about safety.... This is Herbie (well his booty). To help expose him to the big wide world without having to be on his back, Herbie has been learning to ground drive. We started this winter just around the yard and then in the ring and have now progressed to going for a stroll around our big field. Not only does he get to see all of the things, but he is also working on his whoa, go, and steer.

Hey guys! How is everyone holding up out there? I guess it’s time I got my ducks in a row and updated everyone. The world is essentially on lock down. Covid 19 is here and between social distancing (typically a solid activity choice of mine; less so when forced) and our small town being in a state of emergency, we are closed (temporarily paused for those optimists out there) for most services for the time being. I am sure most of you already know that our governing bodies (...Equestrian Canada and Horse Council BC) as well as our insurance company (Capri) have taken the lead to ensure social distancing and safe practices are followed and told us to shut our gates to all but those essential to the care of the animals. While this is partially to avoid the spread of the virus, we must accept that we are in a high risk sport. Even when things are going right there is a chance that things could go very very wrong in an instant. (Always wear your helmet folks!). The last thing we want is to land in the ER and add to the plates of our already stressed health care system. What does this mean in reality? Day to day? I will do my best to keep you all updated on the goings on here on the farm, as well as some great things to play with and try out on your ponies at home. For those of you without the luxury of your own equine at home, I will be posting some links for some online stable management and perhaps some fun pony games. For now, take advantage of this slow start to the season and go for a walk. On a horse, with a horse or with your family. The fresh air does wonders for your soul. And take a moment to listen, feel the season, this moment, It’s a wickedly weird world out there right now. Not what any of us requested but that doesn’t mean we can’t take this time to rest, learn and grow. Both with our horses and within ourselves.

Herbie is ready for his new home! Herbie is a 2017 feral pony 13.3hh stocky gelding I have had him since winter 2018. He is fully adapted to life as a civilized pony. Halter broke, ties, lunges, ground drives, easy to catch, wears boots, blankets and all his tack. He is decent for vet and farrier. Up to date on worming, vacc & teeth. He has been backed and ridden in the ring at the walk and will continue his education until he has found his next home. ... He is a good boy, keen for a job but having been feral I would recommend he goes to a home with knowledge and in a program with the assistance of a regular trainer. 1.2.0.0 Videos available upon request. ‘Tis the season to renew all of your membership! Do you know which ones you’ll need this year? Now is the best time to start putting some thought into what you want your season to look like. Feel free to be in touch if you’d like a hand planning your show season.
