Sunny days are here, and so are many moments outside in the gardens and Memory Lane. The birds & blooms are calling, and we’re seeing staff and Elders outside nearly every single day. Last week, a rainbow came to touch Peggy while we sat amidst the trees!
One year, one long and quick year. One that took lives too early, that separated families and communities. One long year that terrorized an already vulnerable and disadvantaged population. One long year that meant all work and no play for some, and no work and no play for others. The end is near, the skies are brightening and our arms are grateful for a vaccine. This moment is to those who were taken too soon and who don’t have an opportunity to see the sun. You’ll never be forgotten!
It's official! "The team at Eden Gardens is to be commended for their exceptional work ensuring the outbreak did not spread further and continuing to provide high-quality care under challenging circumstances" So proud of our team!!!... https://www.islandhealth.ca//island-health-declares-covid- See more
We are very pleased to announce that 90% of our home has the restrictions lifted and has been confirmed COVID free. One neighborhood remains under precautions for the standard 14 days from the last potential exposure. On Monday, they too will have their precautions lifted. Our visiting team will be calling families to set up visits shortly - please give us some time to get everything re-started - we can't wait to welcome our families back! A huge thank you to everyone's support and a big kudos to the staff who worked diligently to support our elders during this difficult time. We must keep up with our public health practices and continue to protect our elders moving forward!
We are pleased to report 109 negative COVID swab results from our elders today. We are awaiting 12 more results from our second round of testing yesterday. Almost all our elders were swabbed and given their second vaccine yesterday and we are eagerly awaiting all results. It's our hope that we announce shortly to be deemed COVID free! Thank you to all the staff for their dedication and hard work during this time and to all our families for their support and patience and trust as our communication and visiting have lessened. We hope to be back to our pre-outbreak normal within the next little while upon confirmation from the Medical Health Officer
We want to take 10 minutes of your time to thank all of those working at Eden Gardens and in all the continued using care sector on BC Seniors Care Provider Day. This video is specific to each and every one of you. This year has had more sacrifices and challenges then we ever expected and it’s been an honour to share this industry with each of you.
What a weather change we’ve seen the last few days! It’s hard to believe only a few short days ago Violet and Bunny were out for a walk and enjoying the sunshine. We even managed to wave some hellos to a few residents from the other neighbourhoods via the garden through the windows, this sure brought some smiles to everyone. We hope you are staying cosy, safe and warm today!
We are beyond excited to report that 98% of our elders were immunized today! Thank you to Island Health immunization teams - both those who visited us and those that worked to implement this - and to the Eden Gardens team for great support and keeping everyone safe and COVID free for 10 months. We aren't through this yet but we have certainly crossed a milestone!
Today January 2nd 2021, Eden Gardens showed their support to Chartwell Malaspina in South Nanaimo during this difficult time as they are in the midst of Covid outbreak....
Christmas at Eden Gardens was different this year. Here are just a few pictures to share. Hope you all had a safe and wonderful Christmas.
A heartfelt thank-you to Katie's Korner Childcare for all of the lovely cards that you took the time to make and send in for our staff and residents! Your drawings were absolutely beautiful and so colourful, our hearts are so full here at Eden Gardens!
A big thank-you to the primary students at Nanaimo Christian School for sending in some holidays cards this season for our residents, as well as some more smile cards for our staff here at Eden Gardens! Watching ‘The Smile Project’ grow sure has been rewarding, especially when we get to see all the smiles it has continued to create! Our residents smiles sure are infectious for our staff and though you may not see them behind our masks, they sure are there! It warms our hearts to know that everyone is smiling and enjoyed these cards.
This month the Eden Award was passed along to Care Partner Theresa from suppor services. Theresa works very hard each day to keep our common areas and high touch points in the building cleaned, we couldn’t be safe without our support services team! Please help us in thanking and congratulating Theresa for helping to keep us all safe during this time!
Here are some excellent info graphs from Fraser Health about how COVID spreads and how we can all effect our future. Our elders need your support in the form of discipline, practicing caution, following public health orders and being an advocate with those in your circles.
Craft Fair this weekend November 14th & 15th. All proceeds goes towards our Therapy Programs for our Elders. Please keep in mind to wear a mask and practice social distance.
