Winter solstice, the play of dark and light. If all we had was light, we would be blind. Shape and dimension emerge with the exhale of darkness, creating shadow. Thankfully, we get to enjoy our beautiful, three dimensional world as dark and light dance, sharing the lead as we turn about the sun.

If you like the idea of meditating but are unsure, try origami meditation. At least you can drop out of your busy mind and dive into some paper folding. Origami crane, or tsuru might also be a fun thing to make on a rainy Sunday. In Japan we make 1000 cranes- senbazuru (tsuru) for ailing loved ones. The colourful paper birds are strung together and hung in the patients’s bedroom. This cascade of tsuru remind the patient how deeply they are supported, an elixir for healing. Indeed, it takes a few dedicated people to fold and string up 1000 of these. You could make 1000 cranes for a loved one who is having a hard time during these hard times. Or make them for your household, a beautiful symbol of your bond as you shelter together until December 9. Love to you all.

Massage therapists who are also business owners put in long hours. So it’s AMAZING to get out to do things that make us forget ourselves, budgets, deadlines. This was after a challenging decent.
