So much to catch up on! Garden season is well upon us. We are only a month away from some of our early harvest. Though we are already reaping the benefits of our 3 asparagus patches! Today we had some young men come out and volunteer. They worked hard all morning and then tried their hand at archery, the dirt bike, quad and bbq. What a fun community we are blessed to be a part of.

This has been a rather odd winter. We have spent the last couple of years out West in Alberta and by this time of year the ground is covered with snow. Here in Ontario, we seem to be experiencing a mild winter. And although the ground is at rest, there is still lots of beauty. Thought I'd share some with you.

Although we are heading into January, the snow is a recent guest and you can see there is still plenty of green under the dusting of snow. As a photographer, it's nice to have these spots of colour amongst the brown/tans/whites of winter. As a gardener, I worry about the temperature not dropping far enough for long enough to kill some of the pests that like to eat our garden produce!

The summer went by so quickly! We had some ups and downs. Ups were definitely our peppers, green onions, eggplant and broccoli. Downs were the asian beetles and late blight that hit the tomatoes hard. And not just us, but blight devastated tomato crops all around the area. We've learned a lot and look forward to putting into play our plans to avoid blight in the coming season. We'll be taking on 10 CSA members in the coming season. Some spots have already been filled, closer to the season we'll let you know how many spots are open. :)
