Word of the Day: SOBRIQUET. sobriquet noun Try to guess its meaning *without* looking it up. How many sobriquets do you have? I have a 3-4 of them. My friends gave them to me years ago and I've never gotten rid of them. In middle school I had a couple of them that were pretty embarrassing. I've given other people sobriquets before, but I don't think we've used them in public. A good sobriquet can last a lifetime. A bad one could too!

Currently doing some Website editing, and I've got a few tips. Whether you're creating your own or having someone else put it together, keep these points in mind: 1. Don't disrupt your branding! Inconsistent logos or mis-spelling of your business name mean less impact on memory. 2. Blogs count too. Don't forget to ensure grammar & spelling in these longer reads - your clients are judging! 3. Where are you? Always update your location info and match it with Google so you don't... send customers elsewhere. 4. Be careful...technically. You want to appear an expert in your industry/product/service - don't spell technical terms wrong. If you're unsure, try to playfully use "layman's terms" instead. 5. Be brief but not too brief. The short & sweet write-ups on a website should still be readable! Read it out loud to yourself. Sound weird? Revise. 6. Think of *all screens*. In formatting and layout, it might look a LOT different on a cell phone vs. your laptop screen. Go back & forth checking the look of each to optimize interest. 7. You are not a computer. Think about your customer reading - probably on their break, always looking to be entertained. Write in a conversational way that emulates speech, not a textbook. 8. Quality not quantity. Websites should be snapshots of what to expect from your business. Entice people to call you or come by: use interesting content and bright, high-quality images. See more

"Generally, when I talk to young men about running for office, they say, 'Sure, where and when?' But when I talk to young women, they seem to feel they need more life experience first, or they need to attain a higher education. In other words, they feel they are not ready and somehow not worthy." #languagematters http://www.macleans.ca//rona-ambroses-advice-for-canadian/
