A study published in SPINE journal (volume 37,number 16,pp 1398-1406) showed that patients with degenerative scoliosis have asymmetrical muscle mass, possessing smaller and shorter muscles at all spinal levels on the concave side in opposit ion to the convex side of the curve. This occurence of paravertebral muscle degeneration contributes to biomechanical changes which cause pain. What can be done? Corrective functional exercises to reduce pain and lengthen then shorten muscles causing balance and preventing degeneration and its associated problems like nerve radiculopathy! Talk to your chirorpactor or rehab specialist for a tailored treatment plan.
