Today, the National Commemoration of Jayforce was held at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park to mark the 75th anniversary of its arrival in Japan. Families of t...he 26 Jayforce veterans joined the Governor-General of New Zealand Dame Patsy Reddy, Government representatives, and NZ Defence Force senior leaders to remember New Zealand’s service in Japan between 1946 and 1949. After the Japanese surrender ended the Second World War, an allied occupying force was established to demilitarise and demobilise Japan. Jayforce was New Zealand’s contribution and was part of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force. Fifteen New Zealanders died in Japan due to accidents or disease between 1946 and 1949. Around 12,000 New Zealanders, including several hundred women, served as part of Jayforce. MORE: http://bit.ly/jayforce-75 #Jayforce75
Co-Vid19 had a huge impact on Remembrance Day Services today, however two of our ANZAC members Bernhard Baker and Jason Pascoe took time today to Reflect on two Sherwood Park (local) soldiers who served and lost their lives for Canada in Afghanistan in December 2009. Lest We Forget.
Earlier today, High Commissioner H.E. Natasha Smith, accompanied by Defence Adviser Wing Commander Kylie Green and Assistant Defence Adviser Lieutenant Commande...r Kristy-Lee Cocks, laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in #Ottawa, on behalf of the Government and the people of #Australia, to commemorate #RemembranceDay. On this day, we remember the #Australian , #Canadian , and allied troops who serve and have served their countries, at home and across the globe, and especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice #LestWeForget Canadian Armed Forces Veterans Affairs Canada Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs Defence Australia
This year on #RemembranceDay High Commissioner Martin Harvey and Defence Advisor LtCol Scott Cordwell paid their respects and laid a wreath on behalf of #NewZea...land at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. High Commissioner Harvey also took a moment to lay his poppy on the tomb of the unknown soldier. Remembrance Day is a time to pause to remember the New Zealanders, Canadians, and many others who have served, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. #LestWeForget
Due to Co-Vid 19 sadly services in Edmonton for Canadian Remembrance Day have had to all be cancelled. However people are finding other ways to Remember Veterans and the Service they gave us all. Lest We Forget... Thank you to two of these people. William Johansen and Bren Kaufman.
