Hi Everyone, The EFFA executive would like to keep you updated on our plans for the 2020 season. Here is where we stand as of early July. The EFFA will not be starting a modified season during phase two of Alberta’s relaunch. We made this decision after much thought, discussion and feedback from team reps regarding their interest, or lack thereof, in taking part in a heavily modified play structure. When factoring in the fiscal aspect, safety concern, logistical component ...and administrative challenge it became pretty clear to the executive that launching during phase two was not the best move for the league. We all have a very strong desire to maintain the integrity of our game so changing the format of 7 on 7 with line play was not going to be an option and once we received tepid (at best) feedback from the teams themselves regarding their desire to play within the modified framework, it was obvious to us the the right move for our league is to continue to wait for phase three of the relaunch. All that aside we remain focused on launching a season as soon as phase three gets the green light. One thing we would like you as a team rep to do is to stay in contact with your team and ensure you are ready to play within days of any phase three announcement. Being ready will go a long way towards helping us all get back to playing ball as soon as possible once we get the all clear. The executive hopes you and your families are all safe and healthy and we look forward to getting back out there with you in the near future. Thanks, Greydon Bergquist President EFFA

Hi everyone, We'd like to give you an update on the 2020 EFFA season now that the Phase 2 of the COVID-19 relaunch strategy has been implemented on June 12th. Included in the Phase 2 implementation was allowing Team Sports (with restrictions) to commence by utilizing the updated cohort structure. Team Sports was originally scheduled for the Phase 3 roll out. The cohort is defined as a closed, small group of no more than 50 individuals who participate in the same sport or a...ctivity, and remain together for the duration of Stage 2. The EFFA executive is currently discussing the logistics and potential formats that could be utilized during Phase 2. Any decision to proceed with a season will take into consideration the safety and well being of our membership and our desire to stay true to the version of flag football that the EFFA provides. As updates become available they will be communicated out to the team representatives. If you have any questions, please contact the league email at [email protected] or by phone at 780-691-2514. Thanks, Greydon Bergquist EFFA President

Hi everyone, We'd like to give you an update on the 2020 EFFA season now that the province and city have begun to adjust the social gathering restrictions as part of COVID-19 relaunch strategy. This strategy consists of 3 stages with the first stage being implemented on May 14th. There have not been any dates identified for the remaining two stages. Even with the changes made to the social distancing restriction, the 2020 EFFA season is still on hold. While the size of out...door gatherings have been increased to 50, there still is the requirement to maintain social distancing of 2 metres. This will be the biggest challenge that we will have to overcome in order to start playing flag football. The AHS is reviewing the viability of allowing team sports to run with certain safety restrictions in place during the summer months. But those discussions are still in the preliminary stages and and we may not receive new information for a while. The EFFA executive will continue to monitor the situation and the restrictions that are in place and enforced by the province and municipalities with the intention of having a 2020 flag football season. Any decision to proceed with a season will take into consideration the safety and well being of our membership. As updates become available they will be communicated out to the team representatives. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks, Greydon Bergquist EFFA President
