Interested in Edmonton's heritage? Well, #ECAMP has stories for you! Neil Cramer has written an article on Rev. Robert Rundle called "Rev. Robert Rundle: The Missionary and his Cat." Cramer's article "positions this man- a prolific letter-writer and lover of cats- within the wider context of missionaries in Canada. A balance of person and theme, this story reminds us that complicated legacies persist in our history." Follow the link below to read one Cramer's and ECAMP's latest - and poignant - stories. https://citymuseumedmonton.ca//rev-robert-rundle-the-miss/

The City of Edmonton Archives has a new episode of "From the Vaults" available for your listening pleasure. This week's episode features an interview with Noel Dant, Edmonton's first city planner from 1949 to 1955. Dant was hired to help manage the city's exponential growth that began in the post-war era. This era would also see Edmonton experimenting with different construction styles as the city attempted to find its architectural identity and the construction of the downtown's first multi-storey structures. The Shop-Easy Grocery store at 11606 129 Ave is a simple example of an art-deco grocery store built in 1948. Independently owned, often found on streetcar routes, and a meeting place for neighbours to gossip, these stores were more than a place to purchase food. At one time, over 100 of these businesses could be found in Edmonton, but with the arrival of big box stores and supermarkets, they disappeared. Let’s be sure to remember our local and independently owned businesses in times like these. #YEGheritage #yeg #edmontonlocalbusiness https://www.edmontonsarchitecturalheritage.ca//shop-easy-/
