One of our members, and Edmonton's Historian Laureate Amber, has created this amazing platform! Check it out!! "Miskamowin (act of discovery in nêhiyawêwin/Cree) seeks to collaboratively explore of our history, stories and legacies. The Edmonton House Brigade is always happy to receive new members. We are family friendly and we all share an interest in the preservation and presentation of fur trade history. We are happy to support new membership with advice and guidance. We encourage all potential members to view our schedule of events then come out and spend a day at one of our demonstration camps. In general, the basic requirements are:... -a vehicle and the ability to travel to our events -an investment in period clothing and primitive camping equipment, including a canvas wedge tent -a commitment of time to attend events, usually weekends during summer months -an interest in the history of the fur trade in Western Canada and learning some of the primitive skills as listed in the Brigade Skills and Interest page on our website: http://www.edmontonhousebrigade.ca Please PM us if you have any questions.

for you history buffs ................ In the year 1788, BOYER'S POST was established (aka, the ‘Ol...d Establishment), and was the 1st trading post established on the Peace River. It was built by adventurer-trader, Charles Boyer of the North West Company . The post was established near the mouth of the Boyer River which is five miles downstream from present day Fort Vermilion. Charles Boyer of the North West Company had travelled up the mostly then unknown Peace River from Fort Chipewyan [on Lake Athabasca] and had entered the rich fur lands of the Beaver and Cree First Nations. This post would kick-off trading in a rich new trading area. They then sent the furs via river routes during the spring/summer season to exchange points in the east and ultimately to Montreal. Just four years later in the year 1792, Alexander Mackenzie and his voyageur party rested at Boyer’s Post enroute to the Pacific Ocean. Mackenzie would go on to establish Fort Fork at the junction of the Peace and Smokey Rivers in that same year [where he would winter] before beginning his unknown route to the Pacific. The North West Company (La Compagnie du Nord-Ouest) had its beginnings in 1779 and lasted until 1821 when it merged with its rival, the HBCo. See more
