Yellowhead County Declares State of Localized Local Emergency A recent downpour of rain has caused overland flooding in the county, leading to a declaration of a State of Localized Local Emergency. Yellowhead County has experienced heavy rains which have caused overland flooding in the area of Niton Junction and Carrot Creek (please see the attached map). Due to this, the county has declared a State of Localized Local Emergency.... Travel is restricted in the area. Residents in the affected area can call 1-833-334-4630 for more information and to leave their concerns. In case of an emergency, residents are urged to call 9-1-1. The Peers multiplex will be used as a reception centre for residents who cannot return to their homes or have been displaced. As water recedes, roads will have to be inspected before they are declared travel-safe. Please do not bypass road barricades and do not enter standing/flowing water as it poses a threat to your safety. The public is advised that for the duration of the emergency, Yellowhead County may take any action it deems necessary to deal with the situation.

County Tax rate correction and clarification Our article on page B2 from the May 20 Edson Leader stated ‘County municipal property taxes up 2.5 per cent.’ This is not the case as County ‘municipal’ taxes did not increase at all. The 2.5 per cent increase is for the school requisition (i.e. School Taxes) for County residents, not the municipal property taxes. The school requisition and seniors requisition is collected through the County on behalf of the province and the Evergreen Foundation for taxes for local schools.
