Did you know Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was born in Corfu on June 10, 1921. He was a prince of Greece and Denmark! Today marks the passing of a legend. This photo was taken the last time I visited Corfu in November 2019. Walking around the Old Town of Corfu is like strolling around the Renaissance towns of Italy, such as Florence or Naples. ... Due to the long occupation by the Venetians, the architecture of Corfu resembles a lot to Italian old towns. The Old and the New Fortresses, on both sides of the town, the Liston Promenade, Spianada Square, the bay of Garitsa are fantastic spots to explore in Corfu Town. Pro Tip: The best view of the historic center of Corfu Town is from the terrace of the Cavalieri hotel. Go at sunset to see the swirling swallows, the old fort and the new, the entire city at night.
Here's one thing I wish I'd known about visiting Mexico before I traveled there for the first time. I wish I had known that it's not always sunny and hot. There are some Mexican destinations that will guarantee you more sun and heat than others that's for sure, but don't be surprised if you get a little rain and the temp only hits plus 23'C.... As well if you see an M on the bathroom door while out exploring it means Women not Men. I may or may not have wasted many frantic precious minutes looking for the Women's bathroom when it was right there with a big 'M' in front of me! Are you hoping to visit Mexico on your first trip after shutdown? Let me know in the comments. . . . . . #visitMexico #familytravel #travelplanning #postcovidtravel #travelexpert
Today is National TARTAN DAY in Canada. It's the day we celebrate our Scottish heritage. I am full of Scot blood from my Livingston family side, how about you? The earliest reference to a tartan is made by King James III in 1471, who purchased a length of cloth for the king and queen. ... For several centuries, tartan remained part of the everyday garb of the Highlander. Today there are 6 types of tartans: Clan tartans for general use by the clans people. Dress tartans originally worn by the women of the clan, generally with a white background and lighter-coloured patterns. Mourning tartans generally of black and white. Hunting tartans dark in colour and worn for sport, especially suitable when a clan possessed a brightly coloured tartan, making it unsuitable for hunting. Chiefs’ tartans for the personal use of the chief and his immediate family. Royal tartan - for the exclusive use of the royal family and woe betide anyone who dares to break with this tradition! Do you know your Scottish family tartan? Do you have a favorite one?
