FYI. NAN’s journey on Education Jurisdiction.
We can all learn from history such as this...have a listen. To remember ~ not only for ourselves, but for our children. It may not have been you, it may have been your parent, grandparent, someone you love. Every traumatic journey deserves mention and a place in our memory. Let us remember...lest we forget. Not for the purpose of unforgiveness but to find resolution by forgiving for the sake of those that are our future ~ our children. One small step forward~ until we come full circle to the place where we once were.
I will be posting randomly off & on regarding the NAN Education Jurisdiction Process for your information. 38 NAN-member First Nations are participating in a process that will move them from the Indian Act controlled education programs to a First Nation controlled Territory Wide Education System. First Nations need a system that meets their needs and ensures that their students will be successful and have positive outcomes. To achieve the Territory Wide Education System tha...t is needed, our First Nations must have jurisdiction over our children’s education in order to make our own laws, have education standards, and cultural & language curriculum. First Nation education programs have been historically underfunded. First Nations’ education has lacked adequate second level services and has not had third level services. Under Education Jurisdiction, and under our own Territory Wide Education System, First Nations will have the resources and the authority required to operate an education system that ensures student success, by meeting both provincial education standards.
