It appears that I will be the feature artist at Art 10, May 2021. I am so happy to have this opportunity. It has put a fire in me to paint and create new work. Nice timing. I know what I will be doing over winter.
At the beginning of lockdown and self isolation I did not paint......but I did put a blank canvas on a table and forgot about it. Several months later I heard in my head "I need colour!" I splash on green paint. Several weeks later it was a splash of red - not one paint brush. Palette knives, trowels, rags, fingers only and this is my final painting. Title: Covid Catharsis or Call me Vector. This painting will be in the Covid Art Show at Art 10 for the month of November.
I signed myself up for a 7 day Fine Artist Summit - Behind the Scene with 35+ Fine Artists and Artist Career Experts - free. You can sign up if you want continuous access and transcripts for a reasonable price. As it stands the podcasts are up for 24 hours then they vanish. I know me, I work best to a deadline so I marathoned 5 podcasts over a 7 hour period. My head is spinning but the info was amazing. Nothing about colour, value, composition. Instead the conversations were ...about accessing and writing art grants, how to stay motivated, how to level up your website, the value of newsletters, applying to art fairs, teaching, living in Florence after being an artist from Miami, how to have conversations about your art, making connection, philosophy and psychology of art, being authentic, maintaining integrity. After 7 hours this isn't even a snapshot. 30 more artists, gallery owners, curators, podcasts on mass media, portfolios, teaching and so much more to go. I have pages of notes and info and more to go. I have been struggle with how to move forward, how to learn more about the artworld and how to navigate it. I am excited. See more
This is an acrylic painting - large 24" X 48" and in process. It started out as a cloud, sky scene over Collier Dam then the fires down south started and fire appeared in my painting. I feel deeply by what happens in the world and it has the power to influence my work. I allow this, it excites the artist process, This painting is evolving - the conversation continues. #eileenwilliamson#collierdam#firestorm#bigskies#vancouverisland#large
