This ad (pic 3) for Robert Green Equipment Sales Ltd. in Gormley was featured in the Equipment Journal in May 2017, as Todd Brothers Contracting had just purchased from Bob Green (with Cindy's permission) three new Tier 4 Kobelco excavators (SK55RX, SK500LC & SK350LC) to add to his fleet of over 100 piece...s of equipment, vehicles and trailers. From humble beginnings to continual growth for over 40 years Pic'd with Ross and Bob are Ross's two sons, Casey and Braydon. Today marks Equipment Journal's 55th year in business . My Grandfather, Ernest "Ernie" Abel first issue was today, 16 pages, 20 advertisers, yearly subscription was $5.50. 1 of those advertisers was @hubequipment on the back of the page of this issue, and is still advertising today on the back page, 55 years later . Ernie used to work for Maclean's magazine in Montreal in charge of a hockey magazine for 20 years and moved to Ontario in 1956 with his family. He worked for ...another construction magazine for a year and then a few people, including Vern Stevenson, gave him the courage to start his own paper, the Equipment Journal. You would always see Ernie in a 3 piece suit, with a smile on a face, a cigarette hanging out of his mouth, and his favourite saying was "it's not what you can do for me, it's what I can do for you." My mother, Susan Baker, remembers herself, my aunt Judy Abel and my Grandmother Marjorie Abel, typing up labels for the first issues. Licking, sticking and stamping. Sure has come a far way since those days. My father l, John Baker joined the company in October 1979. He is semi-retired now and my brother Mark Baker, general manager, and I continue to proudly carry on our "Papa" Abel's legacy at Equipment Journal. We are forever grateful to our readers and advertisers over the years, without you, we wouldn't be here for 55 years so thank you from the bottom of our hearts . #FBF - last year it was Friday the 13th at ConExpo 2020.
