The snow is melting leaving behind the spring mud in the lower paddock. We leave the horse's in the lower paddock until mid may to give the grass a chance to grow before they start grazing.

Working thru the herd for spring training and I rode Sarah and Bonfire Sunday, it is so nice to be in the saddle after a long winter

Saturday we continued the spring training, I am riding three horses a day to get them ready for the season, today was Mavericks turn

We are able to start the spring training of the horses here at the ranch. We started with Wilfried then Jilly and Penny Yesterday

Niko and Applesauce are becoming buddies as Niko allows Applesauce to eat from the same pile of hay.

Bonfire and Apple Sauce, our two ponies are cute together, I am glad to see the bonding that is taking place between the two of them

These five horses get along well at feeding time and pack in to get at the bale of hay. We have 6 feeding spots for the 12 horses which works well and 10 separate spaces for the horses to get out of the snow or rain if they like.

It is nice to see Maverick being tender with Diesel, it is now three weeks into the process of introducing the two new horses to the herd.

The horse's wait patiently for their daily hay. Its nice to see Diesel and Apple Sauce slowly getting more comfortable in the herd.

The two new horses are doing well as they find their place in the herd. Penny has fallen in love with Diesel and follows him everywhere. Apple Sauce is as adorable as ever, he is the sweetest horse I have ever met.

After a snowy day, the sunset was really nice yesterday

Apple Sauce taking advantage of access to a bale of hay, he is quick to see the opportunity when the other horse of the herd leave a bale unintended, but still needs to scatter when they come around.

Merry Christmas, we hope everyone has a peaceful holiday season this year. Our favorite Christmas gift is the arrival of Diesel and the gracious loan of Applesauce from the Animal Rescue. The two new horse are slowly getting accepted by the herd, as you can see Apple sauce is being allowed to eat off the same bale as Durango

We are having such a warm winter so far which has its benefits however it is also a problem in that there is a lot of ice everywhere making it very difficult for the horses to move around. There ice is about 2'' thick in a large portion of the fields.

Apple Sauce and Diesel are doing well after a couple of days with there new herd. They are still being pushed out by the other horses but seeing headway as the new horse's are trying to join the herd. We are hoping they will get through this rough period of time within a week

We have added two horses to the herd yesterday, they are from the Prince George Animal Rescue Society, Apple sauce, the pony is on loan as it is the rescues personal horse and we purchased Diesel the big paint.

Another warm day yesterday, I am sure the horses are enjoying the mild winter so far

The horses are still able to graze as they paw through the snow and spend half there time eating hay that we provide and half there time grazing. Its nice they have a choice.

After a good snowfall the ranch looks like winter now, by the afternoon the sun was out and the horses are grazing as they paw though the snow to get at the grass.

Sunday was a perfect early November day, loving the sunshine as much as the horses as they soak up the heat from the sun.
