The strongest, most resilient relationships all have one thing in common, the desire for both people to maintain their connection and their ability to stay in t...une with one another's needs. Author and Educator Dr. John Gottman states Emotionally intelligent couples are intimately familiar with each other’s worlds, and in doing so, they create a roadmap to finding their way back to one another during some of life's more challenging moments. And that is DESPITE the incredible precautions we’ve taken; social distancing, masking, unprecedented hand hygiene, travel lockdowns etc!!!
As a Certified Gottman Couples Therapist in The Gottman Method, I’m now offering it ONLINE in ALL communities. I have been personally trained by Dr. John & Juli...e Gottman in their research-based method. The Gottman method is an approach to couples therapy that includes a thorough assessment of the couple relationship and integrates research-based interventions and tools that help strengthen the relationship. The assessment involves 3 sessions: a session together, followed by individual sessions, and the final session in which the couples receives detailed feedback on their relationship. During this process couples complete questionnaires assessing several aspects of there relationship. The Gottman Method is designed to help couples strengthen their relationship in the following ways: building the friendship, managing conflict, deepening the emotional connection, increase closeness and intimacy and create positive changes which enhances the couples shared meaning and goals. It will help disarm conflicting verbal communication, increase respect, affection and remove barriers that create a feeling of being stagnant and will help create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding of one another. Some of the issues that may be addressed in therapy include: communication challenges, frequent conflict, emotional disconnection, living parallel lives and feeling lonely in the relationship, lack of intimacy, managing triggers from past traumas, coping with stress, mental health struggles, different parenting styles, finances, repairing past hurts, not feeling heard and understood, issues of desire and infidelity. Happy couples with normal levels of conflict in their relationship, also benefit from this process, as it further equips them with tools and stratagies, not only to keep them strong and connected ongoingly, but tools to incorporate when relationship stress arises so that they will have healthier ways to manage this together. Many couples have heard me say, I’m in the business of helping couples shrink the elephants in the room. We have a giggle and quickly roll up our sleeves and ...get to work. My method I use is two fold- it first identifies what the elephants in the room are (through a discussion and by the couple completing questionnaires) and second, it gives couples tools and strategies to incorporate quickly so they can start shrinking them. The truth is, these elephants take up way too much space and can lead to the breakdown in communication and connection over time. Benefits usually expire Dec 31st.
