At the end of 2018, consumers witnessed a series of food distribution disasters: Romaine lettuce was recalled across 11 states and Canada after more than 30 people reported illnesses; approximately 6.5 million pounds of various beef products was flagged for possibly containing salmonella; and more than 89,000 pounds of ready-to-eat ham products were recalled due to a listeria contamination. In 2017 alone, there were more than 400 recalls issued by the U.S. Department of Agric...ulture and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The same year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture recalled more than 20 million pounds of product. The solution to these contamination problems isn’t years away. It’s here now, and many businesses are already implementing it -- blockchain technology. Wal-Mart, for instance, is already using blockchain to track all lettuce shipments to its more than 6,300 stores. And by January 31, 2019, all direct suppliers of lettuce will be officially required to use blockchain to track lettuce from farm to shelves. https://www.entrepreneur.com/amphtml/324715

Join us for eLATED's November session at Ryerson. Register today and reserve your spot at www.elated.ca/events.php Event Title: Intertwingled Technologies: The Keys to The Emerging Enterprise Learning Landscape Presenter: Gary Woodill, Ed. D Date: Tuesday, November 29th, 2016 Time: 5-8PM... Location: Ryerson University, DMZ, 6th Floor, 10 Dundas St E, Toronto, ON M5B2G9 How do we describe the emerging multichannel and multimodal learning ecosystem? It’s not just mobile (which it might be), it’s not necessarily screen-based (although it can be), and it is not necessarily divorced from physical reality (but it certainly can be). The new enterprise learning landscape as made up of a complex mix of many streams of learning content and experiences, a myriad of digital devices for interacting with learning materials, layers of infrastructure, platforms, and operating systems, and a variety of new tools to help make it all work together. To use information pioneer Ted Nelson’s delightful word, our learning technologies are "intertwingled," and rarely can they be separated out into single technology solutions. In this talk, Dr. Gary Woodill unravels some of the complexities around the use of new digital technologies to understand what we need to know in order to effectively plan and deliver enterprise learning and development services over the next few years. Gary identifies 9 different clusters of strategies that can be used in learning and development that were simply not available in the days of learning in classrooms, and shows how instructional designers can combine these strategies for unique and personalized approaches to training.
