I want to get to know you better and I feel the first step in doing this is by sharing my stories. #elderberrychronicles When I first decided to go to Culinary School it was for a barrage of reasons (we will get to THAT story soon enough). However, truly the most encompassing reason was my Nonna. ... As any Italian can tell you, food is the language of love and affection. Are you hungry? No? That’s ok I will make you something, which translates into, I love you, I am so proud of you and you are important to me, oh and take this bushel of peppers home with you. My Nonna is 87, going on 28 and at the very top is 5 feet tall, which means at one point she had to be 5’ 5! Throughout my stories, this strong amazing woman has been my muze, my centre and my true north So lets start this first #elderberrychronicles with a picture of one of my favourite machines, shhhh don’t tell Nonna. We all know that the wisk, paddle and dough hook attachments are just a modern day replacement for Nonnas hands When I first got to College, I decided I needed a mixer. (Why? Because every amazing baker has one...don’t they?) Unfortunately, the starving student I was, a Kitchenaid mixer was a little out of reach. So where does one go when you need a small kitchen appliance?? Canadian Tire ofcourse!!! So there I was $40.00 in hand and what do I spot...MY FIRST STAND MIXER! I use quotation marks because it was actually just a glorified hand mixer that nestled into a stand when you need both of your hands. However I worked that mixer into the ground, poor thing never saw it coming! @hamiltonbeachca Hamilton Beach thank you for making me feel like a real pastry chef. Now adays, I am proud to say that its my 3 year old daughter, my KitchenAid mixer and me against this beautiful, colourful world.......it also doubles as a real fancy counter decoration I hope you know me a tiny bit better now and can’t wait for next Friday when we talk about Nonnas epic yellow bowl.
