Thanks to our awesome #elderdog volunteers in Central Nova Pawd who helped Leia find her temporary foster home. Leia settled in quickly and has become fast friends with her new canine companion. All part of the loving care we offer canines and their humans who need our help.

We missed our #fridayfunny this week as we were focused on finding Grizzly. But this #doggywisdom was too good not to share.

Thanks to #cheknews for this wonderful article about how we are helping #seniors and their #dogs during the pandemic. While this video and article is about our wonderful Victoria chapter, the same happens all across #canada. We couldn't do what we do without our hundreds of volunteers. Thank you to each and every one!

A different perspective on #2020. I know for many of us at #elderdogcanada, among the hard this year continues to bring, spending a huge amount of time with our dog(s) has been a very happy highlight.

Did you know we recently set up a chapter to help seniors in the Saint John area of New Brunswick? Here's a great #cbc article about our help for #seniors and #seniordogs. All across the country #volunteers help walk dogs, take dogs to vet appointments and grooming, foster and then help our dogs find homes. Know someone in Saint John area? Or want people to know more about the work we do? Feel free to share the article. Our doggies thank you! :)

Adoption Info! If you are interested in adopting a dog from #elderdogcanada please visit our website and fill out an adoption form (linked below). While some dogs do get posted on our Facebook page and website, it is a small fraction of the dogs we are helping to find a furever family for. The reason for this is most of the time we have qualified adopters ready to adopt, thanks to application forms completed, home visits done and dogs whose needs are well matched to people who are waiting. If you're interested in adopting a #dog or #seniordog from us, please fill out a form and someone will be in touch!

***Please note an adoption is pending*** Meet Charlie #seniordogs #adoptseniordogs Charlie is jackweenie who is approximately 13 years. However, he is quite mobile and there are no outstanding issues with his back or general movement. Charlie is up-to-date on all his shots - doesn't require grooming and is pretty calm about getting his nails trimmed. He is comfortable around respectful kids and is just an all-round gentle guy weighting in at 9.5 kg! ... Every day Charlie wakes up and empties his toy basket. Still an active guy, he goes for walks twice a day, but still likes to hang out and chill. He previously lived with a dog and cat and if introduced slowly, gets along well. Lucky cat! ;) To express interest in Charlie, please email [email protected] **Please remember we are always seeking the best fit for a dog to do all we can to ensure this is their last move and their transition will be gentle. We thank everyone for considering adding Charlie to your family!**

Phylli adopted through #elderdog has settled beautifully into her new home. Phylli loves her back yard, going for walks, snuggling with her cat sister Zoe, car rides and of course loving up to her new humans. Each week we have #dogadoption stories that remind us of the second chances people across Canada give our special dogs. We are so grateful for all our volunteers who help care for dogs when seniors need help, foster pups when their senior owners experience a health crisis or can no longer care for them, transport dogs and help facilitate adoptions like Phylli's. Phyllis we wish you, Zoe the cat and your humans a wonderful life together.

Adoption Opportunity! #adoptseniordogs Meet Grizzly the great! Grizzly is a 15 lb., 10.5-year-old Chihuahua-terrier mix. Despite his small size, he is a hardy and happy hiking companion! Grizzly is a very affectionate dog, who is utterly devoted to his people. He is a bright-eyed sweetheart who is seeking a dedicated guardian. For Grizzly, a mere glance in his direction will set his tail thumping with happiness! No one asks for belly rubs faster than this little fellow and he... will gently paw you for pets. Grizzly is also happy to snooze or snuggle the day away. Grizzly does have a history of being quite vocal, and with strangers he can be wary. Consequently, he would thrive in a more rural, or quieter environment, or one without sound-sensitive neighbours. Additionally, Grizzly’s new home should be without children or other dogs. However, applications from all experienced dog owners will be welcomed. Individuals interested in Grizzly can request an application at [email protected]. We do require a home visit, as part of the adoption process. We are a volunteer-run organization and will get back to each applicant as fast as we can. We thank applicants for their patience. ***Please remember our aim at #elderdogcanada is to find the best fit for Grizzly and may have multiple applications***

Booty is a an adorable little dog. Our #ElderDog #volunteers have been providing support to her companion by taking Booty for daily walks. Sadly her companion became unwell and had to give up sweet Booty. One of our volunteers offered to foster her until we were able to get a wellness check and find her a new home. The two of them became quite attached to each other during this time, so what do you think happened? Booty is staying where she is! Emily has officially adopted her, and will give her the absolute best life ever! Below are pictures of Booty and Emily at the Butterfly release. We are so happy for Booty and Emily and wish them a lifetime of happiness together! #elderdogcanada

At #elderdog all the pups that come into our care mean so much. They aren't just a number, they are loved and cherished. Whether we have the privilege of walking them for their owners, or help with fostering or adoption. This tribute to Charlie is just a testimony of how much he meant to us. We send gentle throughs to Charlie's owners who loved him so much, and are so grateful for the time we all had with him.

We are so blessed to have kind hearted individuals in this world. Keaton Speirs recently lost his best friend and canine Mia. It was during the early stages of Covid and he was not able to be with her when she passed. He has been grieving her loss, as have his other family members. From this profound sense of loss and grief they wanted to find a way to make a difference for other older dogs. So they created a fund called Mia's Way. Keaton raised $7500 for ElderDog Canada..., and gave us the cheque today. What a truly honourable way to remember his beloved Mia. Thank you Keaton for being such a kind and generous person. @SpeirsTheAmazingHD Message from Keaton Speirs: This isn’t the easiest thing in the world to write, but my dog Mia passed away suddenly a few nights ago. She was having trouble breathing, so we rushed her to the animal hospital. With the Corona Virus they wouldn’t let us in the hospital with her and said they would have to keep her overnight to get her breathing under control. They called us an hour later and said her chest X-ray showed fluid in her chest cavity and lung cancer in her lungs. They said there was nothing they could do for her. I’ve been heartbroken and empty ever since. Everyone loved Mia, from the biggest dog at the park to the grumpy old man walking past her. She could make anybody happy and loved being around her family. As tragic as this was, and as sudden, my mother and I wanted to make something good out of it, that Mia would be proud of. She loved making dogs and people happy. I made a gofundme in Mia’s name to help other animals that might be in need or not be lucky enough to have amazing owners like they deserve. I am proud to be working with Elderdog Canada and Proud of the fact that the money Mia's Way raised will be going towards helping animals in need. Mia will be always loved and sadly missed. She leaves a legacy!
